Windows 7 SP1 to be released in early February

According to Paul Thurrott, Microsoft is planning on releasing SP1 (RTM) early February. Paul goes on to say that an update should be appearing soon.

I wrote about SP1 for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 last year, but now that the update is finally available, it's time for a refresher. Microsoft released SP1 to manufacturing (RTM) in early February 2011, about three months later than expected, and it should be available by the time you read this. It comes in different variants for 32-bit (x86, Windows 7) and 64-bit (x64, Windows 7, Server 2008 R2) products.

On Windows 7, SP1 adds a few minor changes besides hotfixes and bug fixes, including an updated version of Remote Desktop Services, better support for third-party federation services that utilize the WS-Federation passive profile protocol, improved HDMI audio device performance, and minor XPS document fixes.

But Paul said it could be in Windows Update by the time his readers read the article, but then again, he seems to be having issues with time, lol

I've been waiting for SP1 to clean install Win 7 to a new WD Black Caviar; when I saw the March dates for it I got impatient and did a backup to the drive.

Might wish I'd waited if it comes out in days now.

Well some people are saying that this was written for his magazine. If that is the case, then it would make sense that he's writing it in future tense.

If that is the case, then he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed for posting it on his website.

Edit: Also that would supposedly put the magazine publishing date in early March, which is consistent with rumors that have been around for a while. That would mean that SP1 would deploy in early March and not early February, if it's true that he's writing this for the magazine

LOL I was in the same boat as you and got impatient and did a reinstall on my SSD drive.

Well, at least we're enjoying our new drives. I know Windows is a little snappier on the Black over the Green, although it's not your SSD.

Yeah I love those Caviar Blacks. Before upgrading to SSD I had my 1TB as the boot drive - fast and quiet.

Anyway I have a 750 and 1TB as backup drives, another 1TB as a hotswap drive.
