My son bought a EEEPC 1001 or something like that.
It has W7 starter as OS.
Is this netbook capable of running any of the higher spec W7 Os's without to much of a problem? Without getting back to him I don't know what the ram situation is.
Any hints or advice on that?
Thanks

As long as he has at least 1GB it should be able to run 32-bit Windows 7. All he should need is Home Premium. If he can upgrade the RAM to 2GB, that would be better, but it can run on 1GB fine. If it's less than 1GB, I would definitely upgrade straight to 2GB.

With Core 2 Duo, yes. You have wasted processing power.

The EEE PC 1001 only has an Intel Atom processor (according to all the sites I looked at). I believe the system specs she has are for her computer, not her sons.

Good catch, Petey.

Atom: not so much:huh:

What I would do in this case is save externally a backup image of Starter, then find or borrow a Win7 Home Premium installer to either clean install or do the in-place Upgrade workaround to test it for up to 120 days with activation re-arm. Then if it is worth it, buy HP. If not, roll back using image.

Hi all
thanks for your comments, very much appreciated.Ant to clarify; me a 52 yr old dad and a 18yr old son.
I'll have a look tonight and see what the specs of his machine are and report back,
and here the specs:
