Windows 7 stuck at "Starting Windows" NO fix on these forums helps

so it has decided to boot. I am going to back up my few files that i have seeing as i did a fresh install less than 2 weeks ago. what should i do while it is on that wont involve a restart?

So it boots succesfuly now? What did you change to make it succesfully boot?

no i think it was just a 1 off. i dont want to restart it just incase. everything i have run in terms of virus/malware or running chkdsk, memtest and sfc/ scannow now all indicate that my system is working fine

What about the other steps I gave you to complete while it will still boot? Is there a c:\Windows\minidump file to upload with the BSOD collection tool for analysis by our BSOD experts?

What were the results of each troubleshooting step I gave you.

We don't consider just not rebooting a solution here. When you only reply to the last step given and ignore the others it is not thorough, and you cannot resolve these problems without utter thoroughness.

So no virus/malware (at least not detected). Disk is fine (not completely tested!). Memory is fine. System files (sfc) no errors at all. Strange it boots without doing any changes!

Please post file c:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\srttrail.txt

Check eventlog as well. Maybe you can find strange errors there. And do all steps Gregrocker gave you

i havent had the time to go through all the steps yet so i have run the basic ones that i could. until i can sit down and do the steps above i can;t give a full diagnostic

Wisp, any of the fans inside the PC stop working?

Cleared dust and such inside and reseated video card and RAM, careful to of course ground yourself to the case before doing so.

I watched that video of bootup and the POST seemed up there a bit longer than expected, was it doing a memory check?

I would try the optimized defaults in the BIOS settings and see if that allows a regular boot up as well, just make notes on paper of all the settings that were in play before doing that?

Also, what happens if you CANCEL the repair attempt? That repair just looks like the files needed are probably corrupt or not there.

The fan seems to be working ok although it could be dusty so I could look at that. I have an appointment this morning but then free all afternoon to go through all the solutions i have been given so should be able to give a full account of what is going on this evening (UK time)
