You may need to enter your BIOS (using shortcut key given on very first boot screen) to set DVD drive as first to boot, then Hard Drive. Then when your installer boots up, choose Custom Install>Advanced drive tools to format and install.

Another way is to format a flash stick primary in Disk Management and copy the files into its root. It should boot using the Boot Menu shortcut key given on first boot screen; look under Hard Drives for your flash stick to boot it.

Greg, I deleted my Windows.old folder after going through it and moving any files I needed over to my new windows folder.

You told me after deleting the Windows.old folder to re-adjust the C: drive to make space. How do I find out how much space I need to make for it?

Can you go through the process please?

Yes, first run the CCleaner both Run Cleaner and Registry tabs.

Then run your Auslogics disk defragger.

Now, type "Backup" into start box and select "Create a backup image" then DVD to see what size it gives if you only check the Windows 7 partition box to backup.

Go into Computer>Manage>Disk Management and create a partition of that size, format primary and give a letter.

Go back to Backup Center>Create Image and let it autodetect that new partition under Drives, save the backup image there.

Now boot into your Repair disk, select "Recover using an image" and make sure the repair console can auto-detect that backup image, go through the menus to see your re-imaging options but do not reimage unless you want to see it happen.

Later backup the image to an external drive or to a network computer in case of HDD failure.

Ok the space for the backup is 26g. Once I am in device management where do I click to make the partition 26g?

Is it right click on the C: and click shrink? Then shrink it by 26000MB correct?

If that is correct so far, what exactly do I do after?

Go ahead and make it 30gb since you have 320gb HDD.

When shrunk, Create New SImple Volume. of that size.

Type in "Recovery Partition" for volume label.

quick format.

in Backup center>Create backup image and it will autodetect that drive to save your image.

Now in the Computer Management I have the C drive to the far left, then its followed by the 30g partition I just made, and then followed by a 10g partition, and then finally the 2.5g partition.

Is this correct?

I don't know why you have those two other partitions. Just delete all 3 and pull that space together into a new larger partition to see if backup will fit.

What is the error message for backup failure?

It would be helpful if we could see a screenshot of your Disk Management when you complete this, if the Backup IMage fails again. Use SNipping tool in start>Programs menu and save to post here using paper clip in reply box.

Does the backup utility auto-detect D: drive ?

You can try to troubleshoot those errors via Google, or try Macrium free which SIW2 likes better anyway. I have never seen this error.
