Solved Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit - Expanding Files 0%... then freezes

Just freezes, or it may get to 18% and stop. It even BSOD'd but that's another thread I currently have up which I'm trying to get help in.

I haven't tried anything, so suggest anything and I'll try it.

AMD Processors for Desktops: AMD Phenom My CPU if that has any relevance.

I'm going to try to swap my RAM sticks right now, which is probably going to cause my system to not boot up for a couple of hours so I'll be on the iPod later if this happens to occur.

Where did you get WIn7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? If so, confirm ISO integrity or download another using ImgBurn at 4x speed, or write ISO or DVD to flash stick using Ultra ISO trial version: On FIle tab select Open ISO or DVD, On Bootable tab Write DIsk Image, Format, Write. Boot under USB, Removable, HD's using HP ESC one-time BIOS Boot menu.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version from HP Support Downloads webpage for your model. If so, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI to try install, if that fails try IDE mode.

If install fails again, try wiping the HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation then create and format partitions from booted installer.

Try removing all but 2gb of RAM to try install. Test RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Test your HD using maker's diagnostic/repair extended CD scan: HD Diagnostic

I bought a Windows 7 Ultimate from the official windows website, and used WinToFlash to burn it onto my USB Drive. However, I have tried a CD and the same happens when I burn it using PowerISO.
I tried using the official Windows USB/DVD program, but it doesn't have a bootsect file needed to make it bootable and does not copy because of that.

MemTest 86x - I tried MemTest with 4GB of RAM, showed up as having no problems at all. I'll try it with 2GB of RAM and MemTest.
HD Diagnostic - Not tried *trying now*
Removing 2GB of RAM and using MemTest - Not tried *trying now*
I can't wipe the HDD.. it's my only HDD, and I have only one computer.. so I'd be screwed!
I can't install the latest BIOS, because my motherboard is pretty outdated, so they only have a windows vista BIOS available which does not work with windows 7, I've tried..

Well, I installed Windows 7 on this motherboard before so why won't it work now?! ugh. Motherboards are out of my price range right now :/

You likely need the latest BIOS even if it is for Vista, which is compatible with Win7.

Why can't you wipe the HD to try install? You're wanting to get Win7 installed. We will help you get it installed even it it has to be imaged onto the HD as a last resort. You want to be doing a booted clean install anyway unless you plan to Dual Boot with another OS. Follows these steps: Clean Install Windows 7

Use ImgBurn to burn a new ISO to DVD, or Universal USB Installer to write ISO to flash stick. The error is almost always because of a bad installer.

Go back through the steps given and ask back questions for any you haven' t done yet to get them done right.

Sorry, didn't want to freak you out about your Mobo. My situation was sort of unlikely so it may not be your problem.

Now arises a new problem - the computer freezes when I use the other 2 GB of RAM. That's a new thread >.<..

I fixed it thanks for helping however. I just took out 2GB of RAM and it works, look at the 3rd post above.

Your motherboard is set up for Dual-Channel memory, I wouldn't use 4 sticks of ram. Some systems won't boot 4 sticks of ram and if they do, you don't benefit from it. If you really want the amount of ram you get with the two sticks you should get a matching pair that equals the amount of ram you want.

I don't mean the type of ram, I mean using 4 sticks of ram doesn't work on a lot of mobos and if it does, you will get the ram but you will sacrifice performance. I would buy 2 sticks that equals how much ram you want and just forget about 4.

I think what's wrong is they are both a different MHz. And you can't overclock/underclock anything in the motherboard because it's a old hunk of junk HP motherboard that doesn't allow it.

2 sticks = 600 MHz the other two = 800.

MemTest shows they are both fully functional btw.
