Windows 7 Ultimate - Losing wireless connection

I used a Linksys WUSB54GC device on my same system when I was running Vista 32 bit. I did a clean install of 7 64 bit and my wireless was recognized fine, but it would lose connection after 45s or so and remain as such until the computer was restarted.

I then updated the driver through windows update to railink drivers and it stays connected longer, but will eventually become disconnected after what seems to be random interval times. Again, the problem is corrected only when I restart.

Are you using homegroup? if not IPv6 can be disabled. IPv6 has been shown to cause random disconnects. Disable it in network and sharing.

Let us know if you need any help with that

I'm not using homegroup so I can do that. Although, I'm not exactly sure how.

I have it unchecked and restarted. I will post later.

It didn't work. Lasted about 5 minutes and then went out.

I've also tried unchecking 'allow windows to turn off this device to save power' or however it says it. That didn't work either. I have noticed that the connection only drops when I have a lot of traffic. Such as watching something on youtube or play some sort of game. Again, the only solution is to restart the computer.

It seems like everyone has given up on this problem. Not one thread on any forum on the web has found what's causing this and/or how to solve it. My intel 5100 encounters daily connection drops into "Limited connectivity". You might want to try to update to these drivers: http://files.laptopvideo2go.com/wlan/intel_wifi_v13.0.0.107.exe

They have Win7 x86 and x64 compatibility so make sure you choose Win 7 after extraction. Credit to someone on this forum though I forgot whom it was.

I really get that same feeling, as I've done a lot of research on this topic and have seen every thread just die off.

The link you posted didn't seem to work for me. I'll check by later for them, for right now I'm going to hope the xp drivers I had to use in Vista will pull through for me again.

After a lot of troubleshooting and different drivers, I started to think more about some small setting that was messing me up.

I disabled homegroup, even though when I installed the OS I didn't say I wanted to use it. Try that if you want, I've been on about an hour with it, playing an mmorpg, downloading itunes, and torrenting and have had a slow connection but haven't DC'd. With only the mmorpg it works fine.

Hmm interesting.. let me know if it's permanently fixed.

I have this problem too! Mboose, I disable homegroup, but still wireless disconnect on high traffic or after some minutes.
IS THERE ANYONE WHO KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM 100% ?

This problem is very widespread. About all you can do is wait for the drivers to be upgraded which should happen faster after the launch of Windows 7.

Guys

anyone who has turned homegroup off should also disable IPv6 as it has been shown to cause random disconnects. Is in you network and sharing

I will be checking my internet connection later on today, my computer has been up since I 'fixed' the problem and like I said, I was playing an mmorph, torrenting, and downloading itunes at one point without it failing.

If homegroup is turned off, MAKE SURE. I had considered that to be the problem but thought I had taken care of it when I installed the OS... so make sure. Also make sure IPv6 is off (like the gentleman posted earlier in this thread).

Also, as I was against the idea of using the latest drivers.. update them to their most recent version. Use the actual drivers of the company who makes the chipset for your wireless device and not just the microsoft ones.

I'm still having trouble. I'm not in a homegroup, and IPV6 is off. I still get limited connection.
