I was wondering whether anybody tried to follow this guide: Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers

The guide is for Vista users and not Win7, because in Win 7, "The registry key DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle is set to 1 by default." However, I went to regedit and found that that particular key does not even exist, so I created it and set it to 1. Right now all is going well, I'm hoping to see a permanent positive result.

Will keep you posted.

Guys

Ok if you are not using "homegroup" and are experiencing random drops, diabling IP-6 may help. Its in network and sharing.

If you need help with this let us know

Well now it's working fine but I always run into the problem again when I restart/standby. It doesn't always go to limited connection, but once it does, it takes one hell of a time to work again.

Will let you know how things go for the next few days.

It happened again. Once my connection is established it works fine for quite a while. But at some point if i standby or something it turn into a "Limited Connection" and I receive no IP address, and that's when I get stuck for hours trying to turn it on again.

What's going on with Win 7? Why is this happening? It's been like this for weeks! :(

Unfortunately my solution has not fixed the problem. It definitely works a lot better, but I still get the disconnect sometimes. One thing I've noticed though, is that when I use my wireless mouse... it will stop working and so will my wireless device, so it seems my usb ports stop working since that's how they're both connected.

Literally just joined so I can share that I have the very same problem and have been looking everywhere for a solution. I've tried all that posted here as I've been watching this thread over the last few days. Disabled HomeGroup, disabled IPv6, added the registry key, still nothing.

And like Mboose, I've noticed that whenever this happens, some of my USB devices stop working, too. Namely external harddrives and USB mouse. These problems never happen separately, only together. They didn't happen on the old version of Vista Home Premium I had installed and they don't happen with any other operating systems, only W7 64-bit. I'm really scratching my head over this one. I wonder if the USB problem happens for others, too?

Well not me, my usb ports seem to work fine even when the problem occurs. Exactly how often and in what circumstances does your connection go into Limited? If you manage to connect, does it go into limited connectivity after a short while or only when you try to connect first-time?

Same problem

Well I have the same problem...I have uninstalled then reinstalled my wireless card, updated the drivers directly from the manufacturer, disabled homegroup and IPv6, added the registry key...everything but restore back to Vista! Any updates on any of this yet? I'm sick of having Windows 7 and not being able to brag about it because I'm yelling at my computer for it to connect to the net...

For me at least, the circumstances are seemingly arbitrary and there's no consistency between it. Sometimes I'll turn on my machine (Which is set to connect to my wireless network automatically) and within the first minute of reaching the desktop, this happens. Sometimes it'll take hours, regardless of whether there is heavy network traffic use or none at all. Sometimes it'll go a full day without this happening and then suddenly it will. But it seems that, no matter what, it always happens eventually. Whether it's after a minute or two, after a few hours, or after an entire day, it always happens and always necessitates a full system restart eventually.

If it helps anybody in narrowing down the issue, it happens in safemode with networking as well, with the same level of inconsistency.

I'm just about of ideas. I've tried every suggestion here, and other things that I thought could help, none have completely. I'm hoping this doesn't turn out to be like Vista's lag that was never fully resolved.

I have the same problem when I installed windows 7 ultimate 32bit from Win Vista Home Premium. My wireless connection on my toshiba laptop is not connecting on both the secured and unsecured network. I tried installing, updating drivers, changing channels with the router etc.
The issue was resolved by doing a reboot on the wireless router. Strange that 2 laptops in the house are already working. I dont really know what happened but that fixed the issue which I was struggling to fix the whole morning.

How come I'm unable to install Intel PROset wireless? Whenever I do, all I get in the menu is Diagnostics and Statistics, I don't see any configuration options and it doesn't control my wireless connections.

I wrote in a post here how my problem is somewhat similar. I lose a connection with heavy traffic (either sending a large file or trying to print) over my home network.

However, it only seems to happen with my Win 7 desktop, and not my Win 7 laptop.

Well i finoshed installing Windoes 7 Home Premium on my LAtitude E6400 some 40 hours back but am having problems connecting to the internet. My problems compare with others who have posted on this thread. I still haven been able to connect to the internet even once since i installed 7. All my drivers are uptodate with the Dell Website but i can only gain Limited Connectivity to my wireless network. To make things worst i cannot even get internet when i connect a LAN cable. I also tried an Epivalled USB modem wireless internet but they dont have windows 7 drivers so that didnt work either.I have tried the reg edits and the ipv6 recommendations given but didnt work

My network card is Dell 1367.

PLEASE HELP ! I dont want to go back to Vista :cry:

p.s: I have an uninstalled "BROADCOM USH" in my device manager. Can someone help on that? Could that be a problem?
