Dear all,

I have created this account to ask your help for installation of windows 7 ultimate x64 on a x64 laptop with uefi BIOS.

I have this laptop in less than a week, and needed to get rid of all the bloat-ware that is installed on the laptop. I also needed the extra disk space for other stuff.

So, i downloaded a legal copy of windows 7 ultimate x64, as this is a x64 machine.
It has a I7 with 8 GB ram, and a normal hdd, no SDD, as far i know.

The laptop model is Asus NV56VM.

I have problems in getting the hard-disk recognized in the installer.
So, i had formated the hole disk in to one big disk, including all the partitions.
I had this done with diskpart, and could not get the gpt converting in diskpart.

So, i booted in linux, activated gpt with gparted.
Get back to windows installer, used diskpart to format it to ntfs, and added a label to it. At the moment the disk is listed in diskpart withoud a drive letter.
When i run again the windows 7 installer after a reboot, i could not install windows (again).

I try to install windows from a usb pen, formated manualy to fat32, extracted the iso and copied directly to the usb pen.
After i had changed the *\efi\microsoft\boot to *\efi\boot\, as some guids here and else where mentioned, i could boot, but it provided me a error.
So, i altered some things as follows (i have tried this configuration with a usb pen formated to ntfs and fat32):

In *\efi\microsoft\boot i have a complete boot set, no renames ect. I had this done, as it was asking for the bcd

In *\efi\boot i have the following files:
bcd
bootia64.efi
efisys.bin
efisys_noprompt.bin

I had also the same configuration, with bootmgfw.efi (i got this file from install.wim, extracted with 7 zip located on the iso i downloaded, so it is for the same windows version, i also have tried this with the version installed on my old windows). I have changed bootmgfw.efi to bootia64.efi, as i had read in some other manual, and this helped a bit with the recognizing of the keyboard layout (pt).

I got the same results (i got to the install menu, all ok, only the most important thing, i cannot select the disk to install).

So, i got here a bit stuck with everything.
Ubuntu sees the disk label as "new", and i can access it. Gparted and diskpart sees that the disk is gpt formated, and as NTFS.
UEFI is enabled in the bios. I select uefi when i boot the laptop at the boot menu (i press esc for the bootmenu to appear).

I do all of this also to get uefi and gpt worked with x64.. I think that this speeds up a bit win 7.
There is clearly something that i do wrong or don't see at the moment  but what???

very strange at all...

I have started the usb accidentally with normal bios, and just entered without selecting a language.
Guess what?? I was able to select the harddisk...
I think that this has to do with the fact that i was selecting this hole time Portugal as timezone and language.

It went bananas when i tried to install it. After this i booted normally with uefi, and did not changed the languages and country. All booted up correctly.:banghead: :banghead:

Ho well, now i am at the point of configuring windows and activate it.
strange strange...

thank you for the information, but i already have this issue solved by simply left the default language.
It had noting to do with the gpt partition or even finding the disk.
It looked just that way. As soon i left the language to the original, i could get to the partition part of the installer, and select the disk. In there, i formated evrything automaticly, and i am now working with the machine... :P thanx any how.
