Hi guys, I have a problem with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 setup and it's quite frustrating. Before I explain what is happening let me give you my system specifications.

CPU: Intel Core i7 870
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4
Ram: Excelram 2x2GB Red Culvert 1600 mhz
Disk: Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA II 3Gb/s
Graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1Gb GDDR5
DVD Drive: NEC Optiarc

Ok so I've put in the Windows 7 DVD, booted from it, deleted the partitions and created them anew and formatted the non-system one where Windows is to be installed. Windows then extracts the files normally and reboots the system. Here's where things get tricky. The system hangs after the screen "Setup is updating registry settings" and doesn't move anywhere. I even left it on during the night and it didn't budge. In some instances (I've tried installing more than 10 times) I actually get pass this screen but then get stuck at "Completing installation". And I even got pass that screen in one attempt when I ejected the CD, but when the system rebooted, it hung at "Starting Windows" screen.
Now I have read a lot about this problem on the forums and here's what I've tried so far, to no avail of course:

Removing one stick of ram

Removing all external devices, everything not needed and setting the floppy drive to NONE in BIOS

Removing everything from USB slots and disabling them in BIOS

Entering Safemode and opening Device manager through the command prompt and disabling/uninstalling VGA drivers

Switching SATA connectors on the motherboard

Thats about everything I tried with no success. Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this and what the solution might be? It's a new computer, was built yesterday and it's really frustrating not getting it to work.

Thank you,
Jure

Almost sounds like it's in a bad drive mode for the installation. Check in bios under sata drives and see if switching the mode will help complete the installation.

Hello Jure89, welcome to Seven Forums!

First, if the Windows 7 install disk is one you burned yourself it may be a bad burn and needs to be done again, if so this would be the first thing to try.

Use the free ISO burner at the link below to burn another at a speed of now more than 4x and select to let the program to verify the disk before it finishes.

EasyBCD Free Boot Manager Software

Second, after you have backed-up anything you want to save from the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) do a wipe (secure erase) to the entire HDD so you will have the best possible space to install Windows to; then in this same tutorial at the link below, use the info at Step Two #2 to create a single partition to do the install to; after the install is complete create other partitions as needed.

I posted suggestions for you to try. Please reply after trying each step what was the result when you retry install. This is an interactive process. If you have questions, ask back.

The error is typical with a bad installer. Where did you get Win7? If you burned it yourself, try burning another at 4x speed with Imgburn, or try installing from bootable flash stick: YouTube - How to install Windows 7 from USB (WinToFlash)

Did you try the steps below? What was the result after each?

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version update from Giga Support Downloads webpage for your model mobo. If so, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Next check in BIOS setup to see that SATA controller is set to AHCI.

Remove all but target HD, then wipe it using Diskpart before trying install to partition created and marked Adtive in Step 2.2: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation
