I kept getting the error code 80080005 when my computer tried to update. I tried what Noel said to do in another post and it did not work, but it did have my computer alert me of updates that needed installing. Once installed I started the update windows again and it is now been searching for updates for over 20 minutes. I tried closing and restarting but it does not stop searching. How do I fix this?

This can be a Winsock problem.....

Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and run the following command

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

you'll be advised to reboot - do so, and try again.

I got the same error code 80080005 (Windows could not search for new updates: Windows update encountered and unknown error). I tried change in update setting, ran fix it, uninstalled antispyware (malawarebytes) and antivirus (Norton)........nothing worked. My system is home premium X64. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Please start a NEW thread of your own - detailing which updates are involved, and the results of the Winsock Reset.
