After installing Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade on a new seagate 320 g hdd on a Toshiba L300 Laptop with 32 bit that had Vista with latest SP on a 120gb hdd.then installing the sp1, the windows updater will not download and install updates. As it was I had to manually download the sp1 to a flash drive from my desktop and put it on the laptop. No problems there, but was hoping it would solve the Update problem, but didn't. I get the "Fail" error codes. 1. 80070570 and 2. 8007001F. I have 52+ KB updates and not one of them will download and install. Called MS help and for two days they had me try different things. They even took control of the computer and couldn't figure it out. I checked memory and did a chkdsk on the new HDD. In desperation for trouble shooting I put the Vista HHD back in and ran updates with no problems at all then I reinstalled the 320 G HHD. I didn't have a BSOD at all. But I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and when I did that I would get the BSOD for what ever reason. I had a hard time getting it uninstalled because as soon as you would start windows, within a few seconds I would get the BSOD. When I finally got the Security Essentials uninstalled the BSOD Went away. Have no Idea what one had to do with the other. I just want to get the updater to work. Any Help
Thanks

What???

That makes zero sense.

one thing at a time.

Which computer do you want to install Win 7 on?

Do you have license?

One license = 1 machine.
1 machine = 1 license.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
Are you having problems downloading updates or installing them?
If only downloading fails.... download the patch from microsoft and try to install manually. Does that work?

I will try to rephrase: It is one computer. Old hard drive has Vista on it. Put in new larger capacity hard drive and custom installed Windows 7 HmPrm. After Installation and before installing SP1 the Windows updater would show updates available but wouldn't install. Keep getting error codes 80070570 and 8007001F. SP1 was one of the updates. I manually downloaded SP1 to a Flash drive from my desktop. Ran it on the Laptop. No problems. Thought it would take care of the updater but didn't. I tried installing several of the updates individually to see if it would install and wouldn't. After all that I installed Manually, Security essentials, and in the middle of running SE I got the BSOD. Uninstalled and didn't get the BSOD. I then reinstalled the HD with Vista to see what would happen. Ran updater from within vista and worked normally. No BSOD when running Sec Esent. Reinstalled HD with Windows 7 and returned to same problems.

So SP1 does install after downloading it manually. Others DON'T install after installing them manually. Correct?
What error when installing manually? error codes 80070570 and 8007001F then?

So SP1 does install after downloading it manually. Others DON'T install after installing them manually. Correct?
What error when installing manually? error codes 80070570 and 8007001F then?
80070570 means file not found, and 8007001F means "unknown error"

Does this happen by many windows updates you install MANUALLY?

When I Installed SP1 from the flash drive I didn't get the error codes. Only when I tried to install it from the automatic updates which was before I did it from the flash drive. I have tried to do the other automatic updates one at a time and got the error codes. I haven't gone to the Microsoft sights to do manually yet. Just trying to find out why the automatic updates aren't working or if I am going to have to redo a format on the hard drive and do a fresh install again and hope it works. If I do the updates manually where do I find them at microsoft?

First step in "windows update" is download them. Then install them. Is the error in the download step?

Try to install some updates manually

I renamed the DataStore.edb to DataStoreold.edb in the Windows\SoftwareDistribution file to remove the list of "Failed" updates. Then went into Windows Update from IE9- Tools- Windows Update. Shows 51 Updates plus 6 Optional Updates. I selected the Updates that were marked "Security Updates For Windows" For a test install. After about a minute or two it showed "Failed" error 800570570. I then went to MS Update site and typed in one the the kbxxxxxxx's and installed ok. One of the things I found by Googling is that the failers usually occur because of a bad internet connection. What puzzles me about that is My desktop is wireless and have no trouble with updates and my wifes laptop on the same network wireless connection does updates ok. Now I'm wondering if the laptop that I am working on has a faulty wireless hardware. Although I don't have any problem getting on the Internet with it.

I have run that program several times in the last few days hoping somehthing will happen, but no change, Thanks anyway. One of the things I am going to try in the next few days is to turn off the built in WiFi on the Laptop (Toshiba L300) and put in a USB WiFi to see if by chance the built in one is acting erratically, Because I am not having any trouble with my desktop with a USB WiFi or my wifes Laptop. The Either Net connection on the Laptop is inactive and can't seem to activate it so I can try that.

Sorry to take so long to respond: Solved problem the hard way. All The suggestions that were made I tried with no success. I removed the Seagate HDD and downloaded the Sea Tool. Put the HDD on my Desktop, and ran most of the tools of Sea Tool. Got the HDD back to out of box state. Reinstalled back into Laptop. Ran the Windows 7 Home Premium Update using the "Custom" choice, left the Product Key blank and unchecked the box. Let it run the rest of the setup at that point and load up to the Desktop. From within Windows Installed the setup disk again and did the setup using the "Upgrade" option. When it got to putting in the Product Key. It took the Key and successfully finished the install. I then ran all the updates that were important and they worked this time. Then I upgraded to the SP1 and that ran successfully, and the updates have been downloading and installing without errors or Failed error codes.
Thanks again for all the suggested forums.
