Ok I been searching around even removed the update files that are downloaded thinking ok maybe its a corrupt file issue which I have had once before and that resolved the issue by doing that and did that twice (with a reboot after each time) and my updates still fail, the code I get is the following, 80070002, no matter what I do (including the microsoft update fixit tool) nothing seems to help, im getting to wits end with it, and I really don't want to contact MS or reinstall windows its self to fix this error....so anyone have any further ideas?

if it helps I also tried whats at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...error-80070002 as well as removing the files from the downloads folder to no avail , I am starting to wonder if this is becoming a hopeless battle!!!

Im in the process of doing whats listed in System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008 and downloading some updater I believe its the fix it tool by MS, which still isn't resolving the issues (it says it does but it hasn't), I am going to reread that main thread on how to do things located here just to be sure I havent missed any thing, anyways here the CBS logs that I pulled as well, not sure if they will help but figured they might help some how...

Anyways, thanks for the help your guys and gals provide :)

Have you tried stopping the Windows Update service, renaming the Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder to something else, restarting the Windows Update service and then clicking the Check for Updates button again? Works for a similarly-terminal and frustrating error that I have had in the past. The update check takes a while, but it has been effective for me.

You say you've downloaded teh CheckSUR tool - but there's no log for it in teh files you uploaded. Did you actually run it? If not, please do so, and upload teh CheckSUR.log file

SFC found two problems, and seems to have fixed them.

Noel, not sure, I may have missed that, can you provide the link to it just to make sure I didn't miss it, I may have thought I ran it when I was messing with the microsoft fix it tool and had that pop up multiple times, so Ill double check that.

EDIT: Noel, actually yes I did run that, I do remember it now that I fired it up again as it took about 15 minutes or so to complete, I am running it again just to be safe and will see what happens...

maomoondog: yes that was one of the first things I thought of doing when this started as per past experiences and the suggestion of MS as well. I can try again if needed.

here is my DISM log file that I also forgot to put up last night.

Hi Jaime,

Could you re-upload your CBS folder for us please? The CheckSUR logs aren't in there, perhaps you ran the tool after uploading it.

It's still not there - please run the CheckSUR tool again....

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Method 2)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your public SkyDrive so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

Hi Jaime,

That's very odd. Let's have a look then:

System Look

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.

  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
    Code:
    :filefind
    *CheckSUR*
  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

ok update, I am marking this as solved simply as I couldn't get a resolution except a full reinstall of the OS, HOWEVER, thats kind of a good thing honestly as it allowed me to not only upgrade (well more of a retro upgrade) my case to one that is newer and a bit smaller then my other monstrosity (so now I will be updating my system specs), as well as the primary OS drive to SSD (yay now I am playing with fire I suppose??) so in reality I guess it gave me the excuse I was looking for to do these planned upgrades so thanks for the help guys and gals!!

EDIT: ok I was going to give rep to all those who helped me (or at least attempted to) but seemes I don't have a way to do so :( anyways thanks to all who posted in my thread that tried there best to help me out!!

That was far from the case :) You never gave us the logs which makes it impossible for us to know what to fix; we were fighting with one arm behind our backs.

HOWEVER, thats kind of a good thing honestly as it allowed me to not only upgrade (well more of a retro upgrade) my case to one that is newer and a bit smaller then my other monstrosity (so now I will be updating my system specs), as well as the primary OS drive to SSD (yay now I am playing with fire I suppose??) so in reality I guess it gave me the excuse I was looking for to do these planned upgrades so thanks for the help guys and gals!!

Glad to hear things have all worked out since though and you got a PC upgrade in the process which is always good! Not for the bank balance though ;)

Your gratitude means more to us than rep ever can!

Tom

well cool :) yes im very (extreamly??) greatful for the help, as for the logs before I did the OS reinstall I did attempt to try and pull the logs to use for future use to try and help others however they wern't able to be found so I kinda gave upon the uphill battle and just went through with my planned upgrades...as for the bank ehh...thats what tax refunds are good for ;)

and yes I have used this site quite a few times at work in the times when I needed a fast answer at work for troubleshooting customer computers and our system didn't have the info I wanted or it didn't provide all steps wanted hehe :D
