Windows 7 Updates Redundancy?

I've just installed Win7 64-bit on a new computer, and have checked for new updates several times, plus "New updates available" has popped up on its own several times.

Each time it's about 140 updates . . . 140 a few times ago, then 139, then 138, then 140, then 140 again, etc.

Is it possible that the Update engine has gone haywire and is replicating? Or is there a limit to the number of updates that can be done at once, and these are all indeed new updates?

Something wrong there.

Are you selecting to install ALL of them, or are you only telling it to install one.

Thanks SIW2, I figured something was amiss.
I'm selecting to install all.

Problem solved: I had not Activated Windows. As soon as I activated, I shut the computer down & Windows closed immediately, and re-started without any update installations. I then checked Windows Update and there is only 1 important update available.

LOL.

Strange, I have always been able to d/l and install updates without activating. Unless , maybe you had already entered reduced functionality mode.
