I have a Dell Inspiron 570 that came preloaded with Windows 7 64bit. It has worked flawlessly until yesterday morning. Windows installed an update that I was not aware of, and when I restarted the computer, it hangs at the "Starting Windows" without the Windows logo coming up.

So I shut down the computer, and when I tried to restart, Windows says that a change in software or hardware could have caused a problem and it wants me to choose to "Repair Your Computer (Recommended)" or start Windows normally. If I start Windows normally, it will freeze on the Starting Windows page. If I try to repair, Windows will begin to load the files, but then freeze on the page that says loading files and will not make it to the system recovery options. Then, I attempted to load Windows from the disk, and it will get to the Starting Windows page and freeze. I tried loading Windows 7 in safe mode, but it stops at the "classpnp.sys" driver.

There are no disks in the CD-ROM or DVD players. There are no USB connections other than the mouse and keyboard, both basic, wired Dell mouse and keyboard.

I know that the problem came from the Windows Update that was loaded, but I do not know what the update was, only that it was the most recent update and I cannot figure out how to roll back or remove that update.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

This problem was discussed here PLEASE HELP!! classpnp.sys bsod!!!

and many people helped raplace this corrupted file, you can try it too but please note you have to use 64bit driver because your system is also 64bit.64bit driver applicable for you I attached to post

1.Place classpnp.sys to a USB stick
2.Burn any Linux i.e Ubuntu and boot it (you can use also Dell disk too if you want but it is unconfortable)
3.Navigate to C:\windows\system32\drivers and rename your classpnp.sys to classpnpold.sys and place my copy from USB stick

4.reboot

I tried booting Linux Ubuntu and Linux Mint from a disk, and no luck on that front either.

I'm starting to lean toward a hardware issue (MoBo, RAM, or HDD), but Dell won't touch it until I can prove that its a hardware issue. I broke down and took it to a computer repair store. First time in 10 years of owning my own computers that I had to admit my limitations. It was hard. We'll see what their diagnostic tests indicate.

Thanks for the suggestions.
