That's interesting SIW2. Vista had an impact.....it is what it is.

MS probably thought...."the hardware is getting more powerful...they won't even notice how resource hungry Vista is" but failed to look at the big picture. Too bad. I've liked Vista.....I still like it....but it will run on a secondary, backup machine and fade away.

Meh. After trying 7, I realized Vista = ME and discarded it. The lessons that Vista provided MS are important and will be important as our computers become smaller and more portable.

I installed Vista x64 when it came out and I had a few issues at first but most of them were my own fault.
Over time, and certainly since Sp1, it's become a great operating system and I still love it and await Sp2.
That said I'm liking W7 x64 very much. It's certainly "snappy" etc.
Vista is more lavish imho and I think I'll continue using it until I've got a good reason not to.
I still game in Vista for example.
This article is interesting but it's got the twisted logic of political spin.
So Vista was the last big OS and it's done us all a favour by being so bad that we all suddenly started looking at Linux and online apps?
Surely we'd have done that anyway.

For me, Vista was a solid OS while it ran. I had no compatibility issues since I had XP dual booted and no driver issues as well. The only grudge was that it was very resource hungry, even without the eyecandy!

Enter Windows 7 and I feel like I am running XP with a Vista skin on it!
Maybe if MS had tried to beta test Vista better and held on instead of rushing to launch Vista, they would've seen its shortcomings. Instead, they learnt it the hard way.

How is having a dual boot of Vista and XP having no compatibility issues? Simply run the older programs on XP.

Like most computer problems it is easier to blame the operating system than to actually think you as a user have caused your them.

It's the same as most of the problems being reported with Seven now, people wouldn't dare think they have caused their own problems and instead blame Microsoft.

i wouldnt go as far as to say Vista was totally garbage, just that there was a TON of useless features built in resulting in most everyone who used it to upgrade their systems.
Xp is way more of shinning beacon than vista will ever be.
vista has only been out for ~3, and is already being replaced. XP has had an 8 year run, and will more than likely stick around for a few more.

I wonder just how many companies adopted Vista, and in 2 years time how many will be adopting Windows 7. I bet a lot more will be moving to Windows 7.

More likely compainies will be moving to Windows 7 Server editions not the desktop editions now that Server 2008 is near ready. You have to look to where MS does most of it's business with the other software products in addition to Windows itself.

From seeing Vista on until now having SP2 beta on at the present time I found it more stable and far less buggy then XP. It takes somewhat longer there however to see everything finish loading since it was a larger OS to begin with. But the same can be said for newer 3rd party wares as well.

Honestly, I had driver compatibility issues and not being able to play some of my older games.

But even more than that, it was sloooooooow at moving and deleting files. 7 is faster.

Amazing how long it took Vista to delete a lot of files, considering all it does is mark them 'deleted.'

somehow am i the only that has not seen why ME was bad....:sarc:
sure i messed around with it and just like any of the recent MS operating systems if you make a wrong change then bam system restore to the rescue..
mind you at that time i did not have a internet connection so it can be that no virus has ever attacked it..

yes...
my thoughts exactly with vista and me are the same...
id say 95 % (and that is generous) of all the BSOD's are cased by hardware/app not behaving well
and the other part caused by human intervention and/or the OS just crashing...

also, my thoughts on vista is that it made hardware prices go down...
it made manufactures make better hardware than what they were making at the same price when it came out...
if it werent for that demanding Wddm model and aero (at that time) the lower class computers would not have the same hardware they have today (which is pretty beffy compared to what we had pre vista...)

Take a look how fast memory prices fell through! In late 2007 DDR2 2gb dimms were priced at $300-! Now you see a pair of those for about $60-$70 or less. That also having taken into account DDR3 but still seeing a larger then usual price drop.

lol. i don't have ddr2/duel-core/1GB gfx card ....
i only paid 350 for my pc + my hdd and gfx card, so around 500 total.
upgrading it to current specs would cost more than if i just bought a new one.

I totally agree that 7 is faster(and better in every way) than vista by a long shot at not only rendering but also responding and the only reason I am keeping my product key from vista is for the cheaper upgrade to 7.

All's I'm saying is vista did not deserve the type of flak that it received from these so called experts, most of whom probably have an axe to grind with Microsoft.

In less then a year's time seeing one item drop in prices to less then 33% especially for memory which hold value longer then other things is quite noticable. You expect to see that with video cards more so there since there's a faster turnover as the brands(ATI, NVidia) compete with each other while memory prices usually stay higher for longer periods of time.

I hear from people that actually skipped right over XP having upgraded from 2000 into Vista. You couldn't pay them to run XP since they got accustomed to Vista 64bit as well as any 32bit editions.

The gamers on the other hand simply weren't prepared for seeing a larger OS then XP while running older systems plus the unfamiliarity with the changes seen. There were couple of items here at the time not favored in that regard while not running into any major hassles!

In the meantime I've probably only seen Vista installed about 3-4 times plus one repair install following a swap of drives and one problem installation. In the same amount of time with XP that likely would have seen 3 or 4 repair installs and more then a half dozen clean installs while beta testing other things!

i agree vista had such a bad name, im sure many spread said name without even trying it or spending 2 mins on it and jumping to agree

i have used vista for years and have had VERY little problems with, given i had a beefy machine to run it, and if people remember correctly XP coped an earful when it was released too, for being so big and buggy etc

i think both OS's were buggy on release, but Vista got over it quicker than XP did

that being said M$ seemed to have learned with 7 and are truly polishing it before release unlike other OS's

You got that one right! Why do you think MS has made the RCs available to the general public and just for those signed up for testing purposes. They look at the feedback for things like bug reports as well as suggestions for improvement on the new features.

Almost 90% of those who complain about Vista never ran it for more then a week total! You hear a lot of muttering under the breath by people who simply stayed on XP and make a lot of noise without ever having any first hand experience with it under various circumstances. As far as larger and slower that was the big complaint on 98SE for those upgrading from 95!

Without anyone paying too much attention 7 is actually larger in size then Vista while seeing the main kernel refined with performance in mind due to the volume of complaints heard about Vista. Vista was however far less buggy in the shorter time it's been out then XP which long awaited the 1,000+ fixes now seen in SP3!

By the way this is being posted while in XP(mode) on the 64bit RC!
