Windows 7 with Radeon HD 5770

After two months of trying to get the 5770 (Sapphire) to run stable on my Win 7 (64bit) machine, I decided to RMA for a refund. I tried 2 cards, first one crashed my machine constantly and the other was fine for 3weeks than started to random reboot my machine. It was a great card when it worked, but I will wait till more stable drivers have been worked before I even consider a ATI again. The last time I had an ATI card was the 9700 pro back in the day and it worked fine.

After almost a week with the GTX275, I'm happy to report no problems whatsoever. I have been editing and rendering AVCHD 1920x1080 without a glitch, and the h/w acceleration (nVidea Cuda) seems to be working well.

I might have to go get a decent game and try stressing it a bit... MWF2?

Regarding price, I'm now seeing the online retailer I used has a much higher price for this card, and it's also out of stock... I guess I got lucky! :p Also of note - the EVGA version of the GTX275 features a "Limited Lifetime" warranty. Hopefully I won't need it, but it sounds good...

Unfortunately, this has left me with a bad impression of ATI. I'm fairly sure that they will eventually have better drivers for this card, but I couldn't wait for them.

At the price of that 275, you could have gone for a 4890 - probably cheaper too.

4890s are going for ~$200 nowadays, much more cheaper than any GTX 275 out there right now (and not that far performance-wise).

But still...

A 275 for ~$240 is a pretty sick deal.

Hmm since ive read so many bad things about the 5770 Im happy I decided to buy a 250 GTS instead. Works very well and never had a problem except for two that was easily fixed by auto-adjusting my monitor!

Well I am very happy with the GTX275. No problems whatsoever! My problems with the EAH5770 are now a distant memory.

I even got Modern Warfare 2 for Christmas, and it runs extremely well. I'm running at 2048x1152 and it looks amazing on my 27" monitor. I'm not much of a gamer, so I'm not sure what other metrics might be helpful here...

Re temperatures, when idling, or doing generic Windows tasks, the GPU runs around 55 degrees C. While playing MWF2 it sits around 90 deg C. Seems crazy hot to me, and the air vented out the back of the card feels like it could just about melt cables!

I haven't opened up my machine while it's that hot to verify the fan is running at max, but probably should. GPU Cooler Mode is set to Automatic, so I'm assuming it's turning up the fan. I can't hear it though, because my case (Antec P193) seems to do such a good job keeping fan noise inside the case...

Based on my (somewhat limited) experiences, I'd recommend this card (EVGA GTX 275) for use with Win7 64 Bit.

I Built a new machine at XMAS (specs below) and have loaded all the latest drivers / updates etc. I'm running win7 ultimate 64-bit and my card crashes whenever I try to run any online games via steam/HL... on reboot my board tells me that Hypertransport sync flood errors caused the crash. Before I flashed the bios it would crash and say nothing. At least now it says something. I found that if I disable openGL it works OK with no crashes. D3D is a poor substitute though and appears to support the theory that it's poor drivers that are the problem. (I have no heat problems).

Also, even though D-Link have denied any issue with their hardware, their DWA-547 was causing some major stability problems with the system they have been installed in when running Windows 7 64bit. I would recommend removing this card from your Windows 7 64bit installs. I have not had tested it in 32bit Win7 yet.
This D-Link card was the cause of all the problems in 2 other systems that were suspected to be related to the 5770 or P55 mobo.

I built a computer over christams with 5770 and GBP55 Chipset and D0Link 547 card and could not stop it crashing, after reading this I pulled the Dlink card out and It has been running without bugs for 3days now. Put the card back in and the computer crashed again on restart. Cheers for the help, now I need to find a new wirless network card.

possible solution found for HD5770 crash problem

Hey. I finally got my system stable..... Ran the graphics on high res gaming for over 8hrs with no problems..

My solution was to up my PCI latency (in BIOS) from 64 to 128 and so far so good...lets hope this is finally the end to my instability (and I'm not talking about my altzheimers!)

Sounds like your system can't see your 5770 and has defaulted to onboard graphics. Try removing it totally and reinstalling.... if that doesn't work, try another pci port.... also make sure that your bios is set correctly.... If this doesn't work, I'd say you have a bad card and need to RMA it.
