Hello everyone new here but my windows 7 wont boot up.

Basically yesterday i brought a internet usb dongle and when trying to intall it, the progress bar wasnt moving so i tried to cancel it but that werent working and it seemed to of froze my laptop completely, tried pressing ctrl alt del but nothing again, after about 5 minutes of this i manually turned my laptop off by holding down the power button.

Now the problem is windows will not boot up now, when doing a normal start up it gets stuck on the first loading screen, safe mode does the loading files bit but after that it just gets stuck on a black screen, i have tried disabling the driver option but no luck, the only one that gets anywhere is the debugger option and this moves through the 3-4 loading screens, which for some reason take about 10 minutes a screen! and then gets stuck on a black screen aswell.

I have tried the start up repair but that cant fix it aswell and i dont think it says what the problem is either, and i started a chkdsk through the command prompt about 6 hours ago and it is still running, currently verifying files (stage 1 of 3) roughly moving up 1 file every 30 seconds or so which cant be right!!

I havent got a windows 7 disc or any sort of boot disk and have no system restore points so im a bit stuck on what to do now!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Gary.

Thanks for the quick reply, its still doing a chkdsk but at this rate it literally will take years, its on 5% after 6 hours, something not right there!

Tempted to cancel and try SFC, what does that stand for by the way?

Cheers, Gary.

It is a system file checker. Cancel the chkdsk if you can. Perhaps the harddrive died on you? It sounds like it is a hardware problem...

reset the BIOS and see if that helps

If its a PC, you will have a CMOS Battery on the motherboard, pull it out wait 20 seconds, then put it in again :)

Sometimes there is a button on the back of your computer labeled CMOS, etc. You would press it to reset. If it doesn't work, likely you would need to remove the battery on your motherboard (might google how to do it, can be slightly difficult). A recent website I visited said wait about 5 minutes with it out, but I don't think you need to wait that long

Thanks for the replys, i can have got a laptop so was hoping not to have to open it up etc but will do if i have to.

Just tried running the SFC /SCANNOW but it says there is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. I tried rebooting but it has come up with the same message, nothing seems to be working!!

Cheers, Gary.

Remove the standard battery from the computer for a couple minutes, see if that helps any. I honestly am not too sure whats going on here, let me ask for some further help from our esteemed members...

I still believe that hardware is to blame.

On laptops, you have to remove the main battery first AND the button cell. The button cell is usually next to the memory modules. There should be a door/cover on the bottom of the laptop to access the memory modules. The button cell battery should be visible near the memory modules. Leave both out for a minute or so then install the button cell first, then the main battery. Plug the AC adapter in and run all fixes and tests while on AC power. Do NOT run chkdsk or sfc scan while on battery power.

I would start looking for your Windows repair disc. You know, the one you made the day you got your laptop. ;)

Boot into System Recovery Options to attempt to System Restore to before the problem occurred.

If this fails, run Startup Repair repeatedly.

You'll likely need to run these repairs from a Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk.
What version Win7 do you have? Do you have another Win7 computer for your bit-version that can generate a Repair Disk?

The stalled Disk Check is not a good sign for the HD. If these all fail I'd burn to CD and run the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by Disk Check run from the Repair options Command Line.

Are your files backed up? Did you make Recovery disks and is there a Recovery partition still on the HD? If so, would you prefer if necessary running Factory Recovery or using a Win7 Installation DVD to get to Clean Reinstall the OS without the factory bloatware?

Here is some more help from another esteemed member:
...Although I don't see a bios reset helping, the easiest way is simply boot up into the bios.

... I don't know whether that's the F2 key or what key for his laptop.

If he gets to the bios then already we know that basically the unit functions even if the hard disk is toast.

... follow Greg's advice about booting up from a System Repair Disc (be sure to tell him how to make one, since some people confuse with a system restore disc).

The Seagate Diagnostic Tools can be burned to CD and then he can boot from CD and use Seagate Diagnostic Tools to test his hard drive.

Seagate Diagnostic Tools will work irregardless of who made t he hard disk.
SeaTools for DOS | Seagate

There are tutorials here on using Seagate, on making a System Repair Disc, an System Repair and System Restore and in fact every option possible from the System Repair Disc.

Found a tutorial for ya... create system repair disk: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html
