But a friend called me asking me to get help on fixing her dad's HP Pavilion Slimline PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I had to reinstall Windows 7.

It has crashed twice now. I tested the hardware (hard disk, memory, etc.) by using the HP Diagnostic tools and that part looked okay.

I am attaching the BSOD in the next post in this thread, and if someone could help me analyze and sort out the BSOD that would help tremendously.

Thanks, Jesse Williams

Snick, it kept saying something about boot manager and to press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart each time.

It keeps displaying an error when installing Windows updates. The error code is 8007002 from the standalone update and 8024200d for the windows update.

Hi

please use option 2 from this tutorial.

Windows Update - Reset

REBOOT
try updating again.

Not a fan of OEM bloatware, in this case i would download the HP updater run it ONCE just a quick check for any specialised drivers for that model. Then uninstall it.

torchwood (Roy), that still isn't working. The updates are still failing with the same error code.

Would help to see some test logs, simply reciting an error code or partially answering questions, such as the three I posted earlier don't help much. You could run the two programs below and post the logs. SFCFix, if you run it from the desktop the log appears there and same with my program AutoSURT64.
SFCFix.exe
AutoSURT64

540MB program? That's a very big program, does it have update packages built-in or something?

Thanks for your help. The reason that it wouldn't install the latest updates is because the Windows Update software for Windows 7 was not up to date. I followed many online tutorials and guides on how to fix that, and found a video on YouTube! to watch. It said to download the latest Windows Update software, and that is what resolved the issue. Then, I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home 64-bit. Everything is working great now. I finished my work on it, gave it back to my friend's parents, and they were thrilled at how good it is working now. I made $80 on that computer job.
