Solved Windows 7 x64 on Lenovo IdeaPad 100-14IBY

Hello all,

I am trying to install Windows 7 on my Lenovo laptop (Windows 10 by default). But after the install it is stuck at the loading screen. I already disabled secure boot in BIOS. What could be the problem?

New hardware requires some drivers that are not on the Win 7 installation files. You have to add those drivers (at least USB3.x, SATA, NVMe) to the installation drive. That is why you don't have mouse and / or keyboard (missing USB3.x drivers) and you may not see the drive (missing NVMe driver).

Update your Win 7 installation media

The main problem is to find Win 7 drivers to new generation hardware. Also UEFI BIOS must allow to set to work with Win 7. Fast boot and secure boot must be set to disabled. OS must be set to "other" etc.
SIW2 knows everything about. Wait for his help.

Make a USB Win 7 64 UEFI boot able drive.

To make a Win 7 USB boot able drive:

Open a CMD window as administrator and type:

diskpart
list disk (it will list all drives. Identify the USB drive number)
select disk n (replace n by the USB drive number obtained with list disk)
clean
convert mbr
create part primary
select part 1
format fs=fat32 quick
assign
active
exit (to exit diskpart)

On Win 7 use 7Zip to extract all files and folders from the Win 7 iso file to the USB drive.
On Win 10, mount the iso file and copy all files and folders to the USB drive.

To make it UEFI boot able you must add the \efi\boot folder

Thank you, I tried your method. I can install the OS but after the install when Windows 7 is loading for the first time, it is stuck at the loading screen. After a while I see a red bar at the top and the system reboots.

I would say that is missing a driver and / or BIOS isn't set properly.
Does the laptop has a M.2 NVMe drive? Did you add the SATA and NVMe to the Win 7 installation drive?

No my laptop does not have a M.2 drive. I am using a 'normal' SSD disk.
I used 7UPDATERv57 to update my ISO file. I unzipped nvme-win7x64.zip and USB3_win7_2021.zip and placed them into Drivers/Installx64 folder, is this correct?

lenovo provide win7 drivers for that machine, so it must support win7.

No my laptop does not have a M.2 drive.

you dont need the nvme updates, but they wont do any harm.

Under Boot Mode I can select also Legacy Support. When selecting Legacy Support I can change the Boot Priority to UEFI First or Legacy First.

So the standard 7UPv57 update without adding custom drivers should theoretical work...

Some firmware (BIOS) assume that UEFI = Win10.
Try to set Boot Mode to Legacy Support & Legacy First.
Boot the Win 7 installation drive as Legacy, go to install and delete all partitions on the target drive. It will install as Legacy-MBR

I changed the BIOS settings all to Legacy, created a Legacy bootable drive. The install of Windows 7 went well, but at the restart (first start) it came to the screen "Windows is loading" and after that I saw a blue screen. The computer keeps rebooting.

Yes, my BIOS is up to date, version: CCCN21WW(V2.07)
