windows activation

so after using aomei backupper to restore windows on my laptop, it seems that microsoft has disabled my windows key, possibly because it has been moved from my desktop to my laptop.
but im not sure if this is the reason for it.
i get a message that says this key has been blocked by microsoft if i try to activate windows.
i have been using this key for years without problems.
i have tried calling the number to microsoft to activate it, but it just hangs up.
i want to activate windows again on my desktop
what should i do?

What hardware?

Your system specs don't help us help you.

Mobo change different that the original? If it was OEM, and you changed it to non-OEM, there is no slic table in the BIOS, therein is your problem.

my motherboard is an asus h81m-k.
i dont know what the motherboard is in my laptop, but my laptop is a lenovo g565.

I use AOMEI Backupper Pro, was a lifetime key giveaway and was posted on Sevenforums. The offer has expired. Previously AOMEI Backupper Standard. Numerous reimaging of drives. Never had an activation issue after the reimaging.

Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) boards have a slic table in the BIOS, a retail key or the OEM key will activate Windows.

Your system specs still say "OS Win7 "

1. When you create a backup with AOMEI do you check the integrity of the image?
2. What hardware did you change? You didn't answer this.
3. Did you try reentering your 25 Character key?

yes, i verified the integrity of the image several times
i didnt change any hardware, its just that my laptop and desktop has different hardware in them

Windows activation has nothing to do with the imaging program.

If you moved the image from your desktop to your lenovo laptop, you need to provide a valid windows 7 license key for that Lenovo laptop.

Either:
enter a purchased key that is not currently in use on a different machine

OR:

Run 7oeminstaller

which will work if your lenovo came preinstalled with windows 7 ( i.e. if the Lenovo has the correct slic table )

the problem is that i get this message on both my laptop and my desktop
i believe my laptop came preinstalled with windows 7, but it was probably the home or professional edition that it came preinstalled with
my desktop uses windows 7 ultimate, but i will try your suggestions and get back with the results.

Try 7oemistaller on the laptop.

Your desktop likely won't have slic table - a few oems like dell do it, but they won't be in custom built pcs.

Just for the HOE I tried the OEM Key installer from Raymondcc. Get enter password on my HP P7-1234 desktop.

it says the license file was installed, it then says there was an error installing the license.
i have also tried uninstalling the product key from my laptop, just to see if that would allow me to activate it on my desktop, but it doesnt work.

thats wrong, windows is running almost perfectly well at this point, it mostly just needs the last couple of updates plus the activation.
but i can try doing a fresh install to see if that will let me use the key.
obviously i dont use anything like that.

Just one question.

You have an OEM product key on your laptop for windows7.... and you want to use the laptop's OEM key for your desktop computer with completely different hardware?
Yes It can be manipulated so it works, but not completely legally parhaps(gray zone), as your OEM key is tied to your laptop's hardware.



however, I think that microsoft will soon not care about pirated win7 as it is not available for purchase and EOL has occurred. So in a few years it probably will be like with win1,2,3 win95, win98 winME and win2000. free to download from sites and microsoft does not care about chasing those who share it. I think there will be more retro use in the future.

well, i have a key i bought that i use for my desktop, that i have been using for many years.
i dont remember the oem key that came with my laptop, sadly.
with that being said, im not sure if i can use my key on more than one computer.
some keys can be used on multiple computers, as far as i know.

Okay. If you have not reinstalled your laptop and there is an original OS in it with the product key from the laptop, it can be fished out of the computer if it is either bootable, or the hard drive is intact (unformatted) so you can put it in a another computer and run a program that reads the product key from the windows registry.

an OEM key "can" only be used "legally" on one computer, the product key is checked when a computer is "online" and can "connect" to microsoft servers and then check status. (I do not remember how often it pings and checks or if it's only when windows updates)
The rules of this forum forbid the rest of us here to explain how to manipulate windows activation and "how to use OEM keys on custom-built computers".
So I can't help you as I care about my membership in here.
