Windows boot manager 0xc0000428

When I turned on my computer an error message popped up. "Window Boot Manager. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause." It gave me a list of what to do including inserting windows 7 and ended with status 0xc000028. Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file." Unfortunately when I bought the computer it was already installed and I dont have Windows 7 disk. Can somebody help me please. I also don't want to lose all of my documents on my computer if I insert a Windows 7 disk if I have to purchase one. Thanks!

For the documents/data/music/video/photos that want to be saved I will boot to a Linux LiveCD/LiveDVD and copy the data to an external USB drive. Have to set the BIOS to boot the Optical drive first. I favor the Linux Mint 16 or 17 or 13 versions but there's others such as Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Zorin, etc. The download is an .iso file used by a CD/DVD Burning program to create an exact copy of the original disc when that disc is not available.

Most brand-name computers will usually include a partition on the HDD that contains the files needed to do a Factory Restore that wipes the HDD and puts it back to its as-shipped condition. The procedure varies between models so check any documentation you received or the HP site for the model. Also, the brand-name computers include a small program that allows creating the DVDs necessary to restore the computer.

So admittedly I am not the most computer savvy. Any links that you could give me to help me out like finding a Linux live dvd. Or would you recommend me to take it to someone with more computer competence than myself? The steps that you listed are for the average person or an experienced orientated person. Thanks!

What I do really is more for folks that do file management, many don't. And we as Windows users are losing out on the 'old' DOS methods of doing things. Since the download I mentioned requires burning a disc it might be more productive for you to locate a shop that can help.
