Windows boot manager will not boot 7

I'm glad to see you finally got things sorted out there. I couldn't back to you sooner being rather busy lately with 7 installs. Someone else now wants 7 on an old case with 1gb of ram there.

As for the virtual drive you have to locate and remove the vhd or other appropiate file name along with seeing the registry entries and one or more folders gone. The program might be VirtualClone Drive or similar for mounting iso images where the drive file is placed under your user name in the AppData>Local sub folders.

I found program that created my VCD (Virtual CD) The program is ROXIO and I do not have it any more. I have tried deleting every registry entry I could find in the editor and even some of the registry entries clearly indicated labeled VCD but the the VCD still listed in My Computer. The Roxio registry enteries are spreadded throughout my registry like cancer so this will be a tough cure for sure.

I spent long time deleting entries and left it for some time later. Hopefully I will eventually stumble on the last one that is keeping the VCD alive. I have searched and searched other forums and no one has a good solution to this situation I have..

Does that Windows 7 7201 build fair better tha the RC7100 ? What is the difference?

Thanks Again Nighthawk

First hi and welcome.
have you tried some sort of reg nuker? Second If you filled in My system specs" in control panel we could help you narrow it down faster. Does 7 work OK beside VCD?
What would you think about a clean install?

Wating for info.

Hi Ken,

I entered my system specs. Thanks for telling me. I should of known. Never tried a reg nuker, sounds like serious harm by the name  7 works beautiful now .. I took the easy suggestion and reformatted my drive and reinstalled having both my drives connected this time and then did a EasyBCD tool check changed the name to Windows 7 Ultimate insead of leaving it named Windows 7 in the Boot Manager ironically seemed to make a difference.

Does that 7201 build have any big differences than the RC 7100 ?

That virtual drive is a annoying it don't hurt anything but I just can't get over not having my way to rid it.

With the dual boot problem solved your best option would be seeing a second fresh install of 7 with both plugged to keep XP going in order to remove the VCD problem entirely. You wouldn't need the EasyBCD tool to see XP added back in since the 7 installer would pick that up.

The BCD editor can simply renaming the previous version entry as well as setting the default OS and display time. System Tools - BCD Editor

Im glad you have it working. There are completely safe registry cleaners ( i like to call them nukers cause when all else fails nuke it) There are several things different between 7100 and 7201. I wouldn't upgrade right now because in the next couple of days the next upgade will be availible. Might want to try one of the registry cleaners. I have 4 installed (only use 1) but like anything else before you mess around in registry make a backup

Ken

NightHawk & ZigZag Thanks for those suggestions but neither will work for me as I have already tried them most recently just by reinstalling Windows 7 and several registry cleaners in the distant past. I sent Roxio a specific email over the issue and hoping they can reply with the precise registry key I need to hit to rid this VCD. Thanks for the advice.

One thing is for sure. I will never allow this to happen again. Always know what program creates a virtual drive and always make sure you use that program to unmount before uninstalling.

If I couldn't find a way to remove something here I would simply reformat the primary for another clean install of 7. In fact I had the second 64bit setup on array but later decided to try out a few other things on the 32bit RC instead. Both drives already backed up saw the partitions removed completely for the two new clean installs of both.
