Here's my issue, when i try to open up the network I get an error saying Windows cannot access \\toxic-pc\c. You do not have permission to access \\toxic-pc\c. Contract your network administrator to request access. The weird thing is that i can ping it perfectly, and I can also see all computers in the workgroup perfectly, and I can access the public folder fine, but i can't figure out why i don't have permission to access that folder.

I'mm willing to screenshot anything you need to check settings, I have the drives set to shared, and shared permissions tab set to everyone.

Here's a screenshot of the network folder.

Hello toxicrat,
Everyone keeps getting hungup on drive access. To access the entire drive you need to use both the regular sharing permissons and more importantly you need to use the Security tab of the drive and allow for permissions there as well. Example below.

From a security stand point you would be better off sharing the entire User folder rather than then entire C drive.

Hey chev65........... I have the same problem. Windows7 64 bit. Have 4 computers on network. One replaced, but will not connect. Can use internet, see all other computers on the network. Have set up sharing on C drive and several subfolders. Have matched workgroup, homegroup pass word and network sharing settings. When I try to connect I get a "Permissions not granted" message.

One weird thing on the computer that holds all my data: on the C drive, then the folder that holds the data I want, I right click to get properties, and the attributes are shown as Read Only. I try everything to unselect Read Only, but it always reverts back after I apply and close. Could that be the problem and how could I fix it???

Here is the really weird part. The other 3 computers on the network are working great. Only the new computer has a problem connecting and functioning. I have tried a couple of other computers under the same circumstances and they all will not connect and I get the same "Permissions not granted message".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You really need to set up the sharing permissions from the C:>Users folder and not the C: drive. The link below shows you how.
