windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware Code 37

This problem has been driving me slightly crazy at the moment. It is a problem with the iPhone connected to the usb on my computer and iTunes does recognize the phone, but I cannot access the photos on it from windows explorer. Windows device manager says: windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (code 37) so I tried deleting the device drivers and rebooting and it worked temporarily but on reboot the problem returned and I have no idea who to do any suggestions?

If anyone is interested, I uninstalled the driver (from device manager) then shutdown computer
but left iPhone connected. Once rebooted, I went back to device manager, actions, look
for new hardware and then the autoplay prompt appeared asking if I wanted to upload photos.

That only works until reboot. I uninstalled it, rebooted with the iPhone plugged in and it worked but then I rebooted but left the iPhone disconnected then when I plugged it back in the problem came back.

- restarting iPhone.
- uninstall all Apple products and reinstall
-------
- remove iphone, restart
- run drive cleanup as admin Drive Tools for Windows some way down
- restart and scan registry with CCleaner
- plug iPhone

So I tried what you recommended but the problem still happens. Also, the link you posted recommends deleting the upper and lower filters do you think I should try that?

So I tried the fix that involved deleting the upper and lower filters, but I didnt see any upper or lower filter entries for the portable device category so I deleted it for the cd/dvd rom category becuase it said this might resolve issues for other devices. This did nothing to fix the problem and the last solution is to reinstall universal usb drives woulds it be safe to do that and if i do would i also need to delete the intel chipset usb enhanced host controller?

Not exactly your problem but you SHOULD make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. And I'd go one step further. I'd uninstall any iTune/iPhone driver you see listed in Programs and Features and then reinstall

2. Filters are like driver "add-on" parts. They're sometimes added by 3rd party vendors to augment the native device driver so the driver supports their application. Guides for deleting upper/lower filters are often provided as it sometimes helps by removing a corrupt filter, but - what the guides DON;T mention, in doing so you are also removing ALL upper/lower filters. Doing so may help in removing a corrupt or old filter but in the process you're also deleting filters that may still be used by other apps running on your machine.

This means, for example, after deleting CD/DVD filters - IF a CD/DVD app seems not working right, uninstall then reinstall the app - this will causes it to reinstall any filter it uses that may have been deleted earlier

p.s. If one googles the filter name, you can usually tell what vendor its from. Filters from Microsoft are never the problem. It's the filters from 3rd party (non-MS) vendors that MAY cause problems

Just noticed one more thing... you said you checked filters for portable devices and cd/dvd. But did you check disk drives?
