Windows Experience Index - Change Score Manually

How to Manually Change WEI Score in Windows 7

   Information
So i got bored today and started to think is there a way to change WEI manually... Started googeling and first answer was how to change WEI in Vista. wasted about 30 min changing files before realised that win 7 works a bit different.

Before you continue, you will need to disable UAC and you may need to take ownership of the files needed to change below.

You will need to rate your computer's WEI score at least once before.

   Warning
This is only for fun and show, this does not increase performance!!!

To restore original scores just rerate your computer's WEI score

Here's How: 1. Open up Windows Explorer & Browse to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore.

2. Click on the most recently created XML file there (its something like this….2009-07-05 01.12.28.985 Formal.Assessment (Initial).WinSAT) change-wei.png
3. Open above file fine in notepad or wordpad and make changes to following selected part shown in below image. windows-7-windows-experience-index.png

for e.g

Code:
<WinSPR>
<SystemScore>7.9</SystemScore>
<MemoryScore>7.9</MemoryScore>
<CpuScore>7.9</CpuScore>
<CPUSubAggScore>7.9</CPUSubAggScore>
<VideoEncodeScore>7.9</VideoEncodeScore>
<GraphicScore>7.9</GraphicScore>
<GamingScore>7.9</GamingScore>
<DiskScore>7.9</DiskScore>
</WinSPR>
4. Save the file and open Performance Information and Tools (Right click on Computer-> Properties -> Windows Experience Index) windows-experience-index-before-change.png

this is going to sound silly, but trust me.

You might want to put a warning at the top that this doesn't actually change anything but the numbers.

I know it sounds stupid... but it will come back and bite you in the bum otherwise.

1) Everybody here will be extremely grateful, Sir/ Madam, if you kindly desist from using impolite language.

2) Unfortunately, this tutorial is useless. Its only for bragging rights because only the displayed score changes, not the actual score.

3) Wonder whether all proposed tutorials should be cleared by a "tutorial sheriff" (like Brink) before they are allowed to be posted.

like said in first info box in tut, i got bored and looked up if thats possible, and tought that ill do a tut in case theres any more wierdos like me. Its pointless just like painting ur car from dark green to dark black (or any other colors). Its just for show.

edit: and btw, a "tutorial sheriff" looked it over (made it look better and stuff so it would actually look like a tutorial)

I think its neat just because it annoys me that the gaming graphics score makes my machine a 3.1. the regular graphics are 3.5 and everything else is over 5. It looks like I can change the base score without changing the actual scores for anything, which would be sweet. There are some idiots at my school that think the base score means everything about how good a computer is, and anything below a 4.5 just seems unacceptable to them.

Good point, have to agree.

Although I'm not in favor of actually doing this, if someone wants to, then they can do it safely and avoid causing problems trying to do it incorrectly.
