Windows Explorer changing directories on recent folders list

I'm having an issue with Windows Explorer changing from one library directory to another on the recent folders list. Anytime I open a file in a new folder or library, it replaces the existing folder link with the new library and/or folder, instead of creating a new shortcut to the most recently accessed folder. It used to create a new link in the list every time I accessed a new folder! Now the link actually switches between libraries, when I move from one to another; i.e. I just opened a file from the Pictures library, and then one from the Videos library. The link to the Pictures library is immediately replaced by the one for Videos. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not the link is pinned to the list.

Everything worked fine until yesterday when I switched the connection on my external hard drive from the USB on my Windows 7 desktop to the USB on my Netgear R6300 router, so that I could network my files to another HP desktop and an HP laptop, both of which are running Windows 10, as well as my Kindle Fire. When I changed the physical configuration of the network, obviously my existing links were no longer valid, so I mass deleted all of them so that I could just start over with the new network path. Now, every time I open a file from a new folder or library, I lose the one I accessed earlier. The recent items feature is enabled in the Start Menu tab in Task Bar and Start Menu Properties box. It doesn't seem to affect any of the files/folders I have synced to Google Drive, regardless of whether I access them from the networked hard drive or the local Google Drive folder on my PC.

I hope I've explained this clearly enough. If not, please let me know, and I'll try to clarify. If this was caused by the change in network configuration, I can learn to live with it; but if there's a way to correct this issue, I would much prefer that.

Thanks so much for any assistance you might provide.

Welcome to WSF Kimberly21570. First! Fix that blue font.. I can't read it like that. And I bet no one else can either. Once done you'll get more help.
