"Windows Explorer has stopped working, and needs to.."

hey, so most of my photo, video and music folders have recently started buggering up. I open them up, and the photos start loading (why??), but before they are completely loaded this little window pops up saying that windows has stopped working and needs to restart, and before i can see why it closes everything. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I only install the "recommended" updates, and have mircosoft security essentials for protection, but i dont know if its a firewall. i dont download. im a minimum use person when it comes to the internet. facebook and emails.. sad i know. but anyway can somebody help me??? please please please.

There may be a corrupt file in your folder, or something...

Try copying a small folder that is causing this to a flash drive (or burn it to a CD) and try opening it in that computer. Then try opening it with another computer. What happens?

Run the following processes:

1. ChkDsk: Start Menu > Computer > Right Click on Hard Drive > Properties > Tools > Check Now

2. SFC / SCANNOW: Start > Search "cmd" > Right Click cmd.exe > Run as Admin > Type In:

sfc / scannow​
