First of all, I know next to nothing about this subject, so if I post something seemingly ignorant or plain stupid, I'm really sorry.
I'm running Windows 7 32-bit on a 3 year-old Samsung laptop, with a i5 processor.
My computer was running really slow when I started it (from sleep mode) so I restarted it. No Windows Update was installed.
Windows then told me that it failed to start, directing me to either Startup Repair or Start Normally.
Starting normally didn't work. Startup Repair directed me to a blue screen (with green leaves on the right) and a cursor.
Recovery directed me to a nice green screen with 'Please Wait' in the centre. Didn't work.
After entering F8, Safe Mode/Last Known Good Configuration directs me to the Startup Repair/Start normally screen.
To top it off, the light on the HDD icon on the laptop is off.
My hard disk is dead, ain't it? T_T
I really appreciate all help provided!:)

Hello and welcome Whatiscomputer mate a few more specs would be good http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html because if we don't know what drive you have then it is going to be hard to let you know what to do to test it for example. Now just because the HDD light is not showing doesn't necessarily mane the drive is dead it could just be the LED for it is.

Now the blue screen you mention you said it has green leaves down the side and this is most unusual and to me smacks of the monitor /screen going bad is there any way you can post a a shot of that?

Now if you can get into safe mode then please run these

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html< if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 (insafe mode is a wise way to go)

Thanks for replying! I can't run anything on my laptop as any advanced boot option directs me to the screen with Startup Repair and Start normally.
Will post a pic of the screen when I get home.

Update: So when I booted up the computer in safe mode today, it ran a couple of files and got stuck at some AVG file. I was so surprised that something actually happened that I ran Last Known Good Configuration and now I'm in my laptop. Everything seems fine, but I'm a bit skeptical on how a major issue like this just got resolved in a few clicks. Is this time of peace only temporary?
Looking forward to any help I can get! :)

Well to be honest I am not a fan of AVG and I don't think many do but the choice is yours .

You could try disabling it or what I think is a better idea - change it for something else . There are plenty of good AV's around including free ones see this Free Windows Desktop Software Security List | Gizmo's Freeware I would avoid Norton AVG and Trend myself abut again the choice is yours and you will find plenty of others in Real-time in that link.

Myself I have used Kaspersky for over five years on my six machines and apart from using Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware for the odds and sods KISS misses there have been no problems. Plus it usually has good deals going most of th e time. Bitdefender is another good one to try - at least it is worth a try - just disabling the AVG.
