Hei!

Recently bought a new laptop, with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Everything was fine and dandy, until about 2-3 days ago. Suddenly, after booting, screen went black:

Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine.

Some "things" i tried:

- CHKDISK c: /r : no errors reported
- sfc /scannow : no errors reported
- since i was browsing the forums/net, some users suggested deleting the KB971033 update, so i did, reboot : no change
- checked for the Software Protection Service, apperantly, its not running, nor can i start it: "Error 5: Access is denied." (<- actually, i think this might actually be the problem...)
- system restore to the date, at which it was suppossedly genuine : no change
- maybe a few more things, that i seriously cant remember, since i was browsing for solutions the last 2 or so days... if you mention them, im sure ill remember
- some posts suggest, that registry fixing tools might make a mess... i am pretty sure, that running CCleaner with default settings should cause no issues... now, i still might be mistaken, i dunno... sadly, after my last "cleaning", i did no registry backup, the hell knows why... -_-'

As for MGA Diagnostic Tool (i dont even know if i copied the right parts/things whatever :o, never used this before...):

First off - you have a counterfeit install of Office Pro Plus 2007 installed - based on a blocked Volume License Key.

As to your Windows installation -

Please run the following commands, and post the results.

REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\spldr /S
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SPLDR /S

REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SLSVC
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SPPSVC

They may show something

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

The final command didn't run - but it's not too critical.... please run it at the end of this lot (I'll include it)

All the results are normal

Please open an Elevated (Administrator) Command Prompt window and use the following commands....

net start sppsvc
sc qc sppsvc
sc queryex sppsvc
sc qprivs sppsvc

Ah - I wonder what happenedto the Profilelist??

I've attached a small .reg file - please download it and save it to your desktop
right-click on the saved file, and select Merge
you'll get a couple of warnings - accept them
You should get a success message - OK that.
reboot, and run another MGADiag report

Still the same error - please run the following commands.... no need to post the results, I just need to know the number of files and folders quoted in the summary at the end in each case
(so run each command seperately)

DIR C:\Windows\System32 /AR /S

DIR C:\Windows /AR /S

Ah! interesting result, that.
1378 files in the Windows folder, but outside the System32 structure......
In a clean updated installation, I get 90, and 156 dirs
in my (very) dirty live install, I get 2279, and the same 156
So we need to hunt down a few folders and see if they are critical ones....

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and rin the following commands.

DIR C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution /ar /s
DIR C:\WINDOWS\Servicing /AR /s
DIR C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64 /AR /S
DIR C:\WINDOWS\inf /AR /S
DIR C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch /AR /S
DIR C:\WINDOWS\Temp /AR /S
DIR C:\WINDOWS\winsxs /ar /s
DIR C:\WINDOWS\Tasks /AR /s
DIR C:\WINDOWS\Registration /AR /S

I think just the number of files/dirs for each is all we need, for the moment

I dont get it... i get "No file found" for everything (checked, obviously, the folders/files are there and i am running cmd as an admin) but SysWOW64, which tells me:

- 1 file
- 60 dirs

Am i missing something here? :sarc:

:)
The switches we're using are looking for files and directories tagged as 'Read-only' - try running one of them without the /AR switch and see how many you get!

It looks as if the problem may be in SysWOW64 - I only have 3 files and no directories

Please run this, and post the full results

CLS
DIR C:\Windows\SysWOW64 /AR /S

If you like, after that, compare it with

DIR C:\Windows\SysWOW64 /S
... or even just
DIR C:\Windows\SysWOW64

OK - let's try this....

Open Windows Explorer (Computer)
Navigate to the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder
Find the config sub-folder and right-click on it
select Properties

Clear the 'blob' from the 'Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)' box by clicking on it until it's plain white.
Click on Apply.

Make sure that the radio button for 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files' is set, and click OK.

Accept the Administrator prompt. After a couple of seconds, you'll be told there is an error - click on the 'Ignore all' button.

Wait for it to finish - it could take a couple of minutes.

OK out, and exit Windows Explorer.

Reboot twice

Post a new MGADiag report.
