Hi as of yesterday all of a sudden my spybot picked up a win32fraudpack. warning and found 0.exe - which was identified as trojan, after halting the process and deleting the file, my Windows Live Messenger stopped working, I uninstalled all Windows Live components from my laptop. I then proceeded to do full scan of my system with Kaspersky AV 2010 - found infected files and deleted them. Thereafter I did a registry clean with CC cleaner.

after what I ran the Kaspersky again - came back clean. Then went back to WLM website and downloaded a fresh copy of the Windows Live Messanger, installed it - now every time I try to launch it I get that error : windows live communications platform has stopped working. Funny thing is If I dont close the error message MSN runs fine and I can use it, the moment I close the error message I get signed out?

went to even viewer here is the details :

Faulting application name: wlcomm.exe, version: 14.0.8098.930, time stamp: 0x4ac41a12
Faulting module name: kernel32.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdbde
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0003c113
Faulting process id: 0x1304
Faulting application start time: 0x01cabeb731b2fd6d
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Contacts\wlcomm.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\syswow64\kernel32.dll
Report Id: 743c77fd-2aaa-11df-bf9c-001e4cdf2f0d

Now I dont know what this means, but as far as I know kernel32.dll is an important file?

Other than that everything else works just fine, could someone please advice what is wrong and how to fix this? Thank you.

You must run the System File Checker (sfc) as an administrator. To do that, click Start > All Programs > Accessories and right click Command Prompt. Choose Run as administrator from the context menu and when command prompt window opens, type the command TGSoldier told you (sfc /scannow) and hit Enter.

Next logical step is to completely uninstall Windows Live. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall these two apps: Windows Live Essentials and Windows Live Sign-in assistant.

Download and install Malwarebytes and run it. After that, go to Essentials - Windows Live, download Windows Live again and reinstall it.

If the problem remains, the next step is to do a system restore to a point before the problem first time occurred.

Hey Kari, thank you that worked, it seems malwarebytes picked up the remaining adaware and trojans, (which I removed) that kaspersky and spybot didnt. After removing them, the problem was gone. Thank you for the help.
