Hi guys,

Need some advice please, have trawled other questions and answers but nothing seems entirely appropriate.

I bought new laptop 10 days ago as last one got too slow. It's an Acer with 4Gb DDR3 mem, i3 processor, 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium

I downloaded Windows Live Mail 2011. I used to have Outlook on previous computer but didnt even try moving emails across, just started again and I have the old laptop as a point of reference if required.

It worked fine for a week. The last few days, I load it up, then within about 30 secs I get the eggtimer and it freezes. I may have time to download my emails and delete a handful, or even reply to a couple, but pretty quickly it freezes up. I then have to close the program down and start it again to reply to another email. It's a long process.

I have tried restoring computer to previous date but this does not work.I could maybe get a copy of Outlook? Would it be easy to import everything across or would this bug prevent me from doing that (ie keep on crashing).

Or is there a much simpler way to get it working again? Obviously if I uninstall it I will lose all my emails over last week which are extremely important?

Anyone that can help, it would be much appreciated. Could the fact it is 64-bit be the reason for the crashing?

I doubt if uninstalling and reinstalling WLM would cause a loss of email, but to be safe you could export them to a safe place for backup. Before that I'd see if the problem is fixed with a repair install via Programs and Features. Just select Windows Live Essentials and choose "repair". All the components of the Essentials package that were installed will be repaired. (No need to back up for a "repair".)

i backed up the emails anyway, then uninstalled and reinstalled. All my emails came back up automatically, then guess what, it crashed again.

I should have said, have already tried the repair option a few times and has had no effect

i have managed to solve this, and given the issues I had, thought I should share.

I had already exported all my emails to a file on my hard rive, as I planned to delete live mail, then re-install it again. That didnt work though - problem remained.

I then installed Mozilla Thunderbird on the offchance. Had heard good things.I noticed that all my saved emails on hard drive now had thunderbird logo next to them - wasnt sure if this was good or bad!

Anyway, only way I have worked out to import them (traditioal import option didnt find them) was to create new files within thunderbird, then select all my emails for that folder, and drag them across.

Within 15 mins I had all my emails in correct folders and thunderbird working perfectly, it's prob a better program than outlook or WLM regardless

I have a 64-bit Win7 and when loading Windows Live Mail 2011 it takes a good 1 1/2 minutes to load. It has freezed a couple of times. Then I noticed IE9 taking just as long to load so I swithed to Firefox and that took care or the IE9. Since then I have uninstall IE9 and now use IE8 and it loads in a few seconds...whereas the WLM 2011 still take a couple minutes to load. I am starting to think that it might be a silverlight issue, but I will keep combing the web for some insights.
