All my other Live Mail features work, but suddenly today my contacts folder will not open or allow new contacts to be added. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Repair Windows Live Essentials via Programs and Features. Highlight it and click "Uninstall/Change" to get started.

Thanks roncerr. I tried the fix you suggested. I ran the fix twice- once with Live Mail open, and then with it closed. Unfortunately, the problem remains.

I assume you are talking about the contacts window that you access through the client program "Mail" that came with the install of "Windows Live Essentials" (not the "Contacts" folder in Windows Explorer). In any case, the folder should open. Exactly what does happen when you click on the contacts icon in WLM? Does the contact task bar item appear on the task bar, even though you can't see a window? What happens if you click on the "To" button in a new message window?

It's possible that the last time it was used it was dragged off to the top, bottom, or side of the main window. If that's what happened it will remember the last position even if you close and reopen the Mail program. In that case, click the task bar item repeatedly to make the edge of the window appear and disappear. If you find it you can drag it back and resize it if necessary.

I did the Live Essentials update, no contacts in Windows Live Mail. Did restore, exported contact info, had to do the update again. Went to contact tab in lower left and when I clicked, the email screen (or calendar) clears off screen but the taskbar ('ribbon') at the top does not change. Still shows the options for whatever was last open.

I've added a few contacts back, so when I'm sending an email and click 'to' it shows those few people. But none of those show up when I click the 'contact' tab.

When I click contact, that option is highlighted, but the last screen (calendar, feeds, etc) also remains highlighted....

OK - I went to Control Panel, Features, Uninstall. I was going to REPAIR Windows Live Mail, but that's not listed. Windows Live Essentials IS there, but did not have 'repair' option like almost every thing else listed. So, I'm so ticked, I was going to uninstall it. Heck, it's made me reinstall after every restore, so, what the heck... But, when I tried to uninstall, THEN it gave me the REPAIR option... Will see how this works!

I give up. No change. Don't fudging around with THIS for the day! Have things to do! Later - good luck everyone!

That's right the "Uninstall/Change" Option at the top of Programs and Features gives you a new window with the choice to "Repair" included. I guess "Change" is intended to mean "Repair".
