windows media center has taken over

:mad::mad:what is up with desktop gadgets and microsofts removal and warnings of allowed hacking thru this now cancelled application. that being stated, is it possible that windows media center has corrupted my hp compaq nc6400? everytime i boot this WMC keeps showing up everywhere it is as though it has been given permission to overide everything on my laptop! although i am new to all this new tech stuff it is so overwhelming and very time consumming that i have considered giving it all up:(what to do-can anyone help?
