Windows Media Center - HELP!!!!!!

Hi,

I have windows 7 running on a new PB laptop and all of a sudden WMC starts up whenever the computer is started. I tried to run msconfig to disable it at startup but it just runs WMC. Also, every .exe now opens in WMC,there's no 'open with' on the right click menus either.

I tried to run CMD, but this also opens WMC.

I really can't do anything to fix this. I tried to disable WMC from control panel but it's not listed. A lot of the options in Control Panel once clicked just open WMC,it's so frustrating!!

I need to run Malwarebytes to check for anything dodgy, but again it just opens WMC.

Someone must be able to help, please

Go to search type default programs. In default programs set it up correctly. If you need help just post.

Go to each program shown and click on for that to open all programs set by default

Checked that, it's setup as it should be.

Use system resore to go back to the good old days.

It sounds like malware.

Thanks for the replies - thing is EVERYTHING starts up WMC - System restore, Internet Explorer, Firefox etc.

Ok,will try that and will post my results (will be tomorrow now).

It's getting so annoying, WMC keeps starting by itself too, everytime I close it it opens again...arrgghhhh

Ok, done that, hasn't made a difference.

I can get online now and am trying out SUPERAntiSpyware.

I did have an idea, to re-download Malwarebytes but click on 'run' instead of saving it then running the installation - that failed, after clicking 'run', then downloading, once it had downloaded it automatically opened up WMC instead of what it should have done.

Open Windows Media Center > go to Tasks > Settings > General > Startup and Window Behavior > UNCHECK Start Windows Media Center when Windows Starts > Save. You have to configure it here rather than configuring it on msconfig because you have to configure it at WMC's own settings for it not to start when the computer starts. Hope that works....

Go to the Start Menu > All Programs > Startup and make sure that Windows Media Center is not listed there.

Checked, not listed.

Even if I do fix the issue of WMC always starting up I'm still left with the problem of all my programs not opening, instead they always open WMC instead.

This is doing my head in.

Do you have a system restore point in a date before this happened??? Try restoring the system to a time before this started happening.

Can't use system restore, when you click on it it opens WMC.

That's the thing, EVERYTHING opens WMC! Arrrgghhhhhh
