After doing a factory reset for problems i had with Win7, I was just sadly reminded that for some reason, I can't reproduce .WAV files on WMP.

Is there any solution to this?

I couldn't before the factory reset either.

The weird thing is, I have another Win 7 laptop, and it can reproduce .WAV files with no problem.

Do I need to install some codec in order to play .wav files on WMP?

According to this link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/316992

Similar to the AVI and ASF format, WAV is only a file container. Audio content that is compressed with a wide variety of codecs and that is stored in a .wav file can be played back in Windows Media Player if the appropriate codecs are installed on the computer. The most common audio codecs that are used in .wav files include Microsoft Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation (MS ADPCM) and uncompressed Pulse Code Modulation (PCM).

I use K-LITE codec pack:
Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 11.36 - FileHippo.com
During the installation, you can tell it to associate the codecs with WMP.

I see.

I thought about the codecs at first, but considering I don't remember installing any codec in my other laptop, I thought the issue was on WMP.

Thanks for the reply.

EDIT:
So I already installed K lites codecs, and made sure to associate them with WMP (I selected WMP on an the applicable options)

However, WMP still says there was a problem reading the file, why is that?
(The .wav is perfectly fine. I used to play it on WMP in my other win 7 laptop that played wav files)

So sorry for the late reply.

I managed to somehow get WMP to play .wav files by installing the nifty Format Factory. I read it also installed some codecs, and that did the trick.

Thanks for the help.
