Solved Windows Media Player is using .html file as default help

The .html file extension opens with Windows Media Player by default. I've tried to change it to open with Firefox. When I open Firefox, it says it hasn't been my default browser, but when I click 'make this my default browser', the file reverts back to open with Windows Media Player again. Can someone tell me whats going on and what can I do to fix this? I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.

Hello Sonar X, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could download and merge the .reg files for the listed htm and html options in the tutorial below to restore their default associations. Afterwards, see if you may be able to set Firefox as the default program with all of it's associations.

I have done everything correctly and it still won't fix it. The last time I remember my computer acting normal was before I installed Shark007 WMP codecs. I already uninstalled it a while ago and now I'm stuck with this problem.

Hmm, ok. Did you restart the computer after merging the .reg files?

What you do have listed as the "Current Default" for the .htm and .html file extensions in Default Programs below?

Windows Media Player. I also see that FireFox has the Windows Media Player icon in default programs

Odd. You might uninstall/reinstall Firefox in case it may be corrupted.

Well, I uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox and it still hasn't fix anything.

If you have a restore point available that is dated before this happened, you could do a system restore to hopefully fix it.

Well, I guess I need to use my Windows disc to fix it because I don't have a restore point from before that happened.

Just before I had given up and decided to use the disc, I've found a useful REGISTRY fix that someone mentioned in a Mozilla post. I had to erase the Firefox registry folder and let Firefox rebuild it back up again.

So I've seen that Window Media Player was in there, but deleting the FirefoxHTML folder solved my problem.
