Hi,

I am having this problem. I can't run sfc/ scannow. It says "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service". It appears it is related to trustedinstaller.exe. Thing is I have it in c:\windows\servicing folder but I don't have Windows Modules Installer in services.msc. I tried many things I found on internet like "net start trustedinstaller" etc. Registry keys are there where it needs to be it seems.

I am having hard time solving this issue.

Windws 7 Home Premium SP1.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply guys. I think I need to do in-upgrade installation as I see there are some other connected problems on my computer. But I don't have my Windows disk or anything. Is it possible to build one (ideally with USB stick)? I see some tutorials but as I am not tech savvy and don't know one is correct one for my laptop. Can someone please point to any tutorial on creating Windows Home Premium SP1 in-upgrade USB stick?

Download the Iso from M$ using the down loader Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool

Run the application and, under OEM, choose the brand you have (home). Download the ISO.
As you're going to launch setup under Windows, you don't need to install it on a DVD or USB flash disk.
Download 7 zip http://www.7-zip.org/download.html and extract the iso to a folder.

Of course I will do. I am confused on one thing. Tutorial says using the program (ex: 7-Zip) from step 1, extract the Windows 7 SP1 ISO file to a folder on a partition or HDD other than the current Windows 7 partition. It means I shouldn't extract it to /C: disk (where my Windows 7 is)?

PS: My current Windows is in russian but I downloaded english ISO file. Is it ok?

I think you can extract the Iso to any folder. Then run setup.

I asked repair tutorial maker Brink and he told me not to extract ISO to C: drive (my system drive) so I extracted it to D:.

Repair is done and Windows Modules Installer is back and I can perform sfc /scannow without any problem now.
