Hello-
My computer has had an issue over the last week or two. When starting the machine up first thing in the
morning, it will only Boot to a black screen. I have to do a hard shut down, wait a few seconds, and reboot.
Event ID 41 is indicated in Event Viewer at precisely the exact time this has happened. This has happened twice.

'The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly'

I've done Disk Clean Up, ran 'sfc /scannow', and 'chkdsk'. Everything comes up clean.

Could someone please help me resolve this issue?... We certainly would appreciate it- Thanks!

Please note attachments.

Regards-

tim

"'The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly' That's becasue you have rebooted before you logged into the system.
My best bet is that this is a RAM issue.

System passes MemTest and Memory Diagnostics. This issue doesn't happen all of the time. Also, when shutting down, there are messages flashing across the screen- it happens so fast that I can't read but one of them- 'Services Stopped'.

Not sure what you mean by 'you have rebooted before logged into the system'... at the end of the day, I simply click 'Start>Shut down'...in the morning, just push the power button on machine.
Today it worked fine. The issue has only happened approx. 3-4 times in the last 2-3 months.

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down..." is related to you had to do a hard shut down. Normal.
It will be hard to find the "bad guy" because it doesn't always happen.
Run MSConfig and look for a new service or Startup program.

Thank you, Mh07... Yes, we haven't tried a 'clean boot' state yet, either. However, we did look at 'msconfig' and check start ups and, to a degree, services. I just started using LastPass but this issue started prior to that installation.

Here's a look at 'msconfig' Startup and Services, with MS services hidden. Of note, I do have 'Services' set-up according to Black Viper's 'safe' recommendations. I've been running that since we installed an SSD with clean install of Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64. Also, we run Page File on a separate HDD along with Downloads, Documents, Pictures, etc. It has worked flawlessly to this point.

You could try enabling verbose messages to see if that helps.
Here's a MS article about this:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/325376

OK, using the procedure outlined in the MS article, it gets kind of complicated via the Administrative Tools option. The 'Active Directory Users & Computers' is not a standard component. I didn't want to modify the Registry as suggested in the 2nd option.
So, we made the change using 'gpedit.msc', enabling the 'Verbose vs normal message status' switch.
We'll see what's going on and report back.
Thanks!

Oh boy, that's a tough one!... we didn't log a specific time/date at first and subsequent occurrences. I have a list of 'problem' updates that I check against when a round of updates comes through.
Are you aware of any, specifically, that might cause this problem, or perhaps problems in general?...
I can post a list of installed Updates from when I THINK the issue started.
Please advice.
Thanks!

Updates installed since 09/2016-
