Bearing in mind that my speciality is not Windows Update problems, from what I can see in there, the problems definitely arise from communication difficulties between the Windows Update servers and your Windows Update client.

Have you been able to rip out WinPatrol?

I would suggest uninstalling Comodo completely (and using any 'cleaner' tool they may have), and switching the Windows Firewall on, then attempting updates.
If you're behind a NAT firewall, you could also try running updates with the Windows Firewall switched off (but no surfing!).

Tried your suggestion

I used Iobit Uninstaller to rid WinPatrol...my favorite uninstaller for past 3yrs ...
it also has forced uninstall, it's portable - no installation and it's free...

I released all my captive blocked files in Comodo then did a complete uninstall.

1. Totally lost my internet connection was without all day yesterday
Uninstalled the nic card re-installed over and over again...nothing

2. Something started in right away trying to install a virtual usb connection
but I still have unknown device disabled in device manager so it failed

3. Eventually did a restore and got my connection back

4. Left all remote and bluetooth files unblocked in the firewall and turned firewall off
repaired windows update and tried updates again but kept getting error 80070005
and was stripped of my admin rights again.

I'm kind of stuck...unless you know of an installation command where I can install
the microsoft software only from the OEM disk. I guess I could try uninstalling everything HP but there is all that crap that gets leftover in the registry that could cause more problems.

Q: When you do a system restore (rstrui.exe) do you have to activate your windows again? Could this cause the inability to access updates?

The only time it should be necessary to re-activate after a System Restore, is if the restore point you use is one where windows wasn't activated in the first place.

I can only think that your system is majorly hosed in some non-obvious manner, and a reformat/reinstall would be a good idea, starting with known-clean media.
You can download a Win7 SP1 retail disk (which will work with your OEM COA Key) from the links here - make sure that you get the right edition and language! -

Thx for the reply

The virtual usb connections must have gone thru anyway...the attached was all it was after
to take away install rights and stamp the desktop with "not genuine" funny thing is I did
attempt windows activation tool this AM and it said it was already installed.
I definitely lost activation when I a did restore and I guarantee you it was activated.

Downloaded ISO - will attempt to install tonight...you're awesome - Thx
I am really hoping this works.

I tink I gonna cwry...not really!
Way past all that...have all HP drivers installed and about 100 Win updates. pretty much the most important elective and security software as well. I would still feel blessed if U tell me there is a bleedin' heart activation desk that can magically make my OEM code valid.

I can use this new info when I start working on my own PC...but if I had a wish right
now...it would be to keep what I have already done and not start over...

The link I recieved yesterday...went thru perfectly...easy as heck. Don't
understand what I just read about bypassing the UEFI in bios...I seem to
be functioning...am I just lucky?

Love the link thanks...

Microsoft says

I called the activation desk and was told my oem product key has been blocked
by MS - there is no secret desk that will help me they told me to call HP.
HP says they don't know how to help me if MS is doing the blocking so...
can anyone take my COA listed on the first page and find out the reason they blocked me? She did ask me if I have ever upgraded the hard drive or had any XP ever
installed...why would I have XP installed on a 7...something is just not right.

And...no...this has all original equipment...nothing ever replaced.

I sent this back to HP once after about a year cuz the HP tone control was going whack flashing on and off all the time and making us lose screen focus which
made it hard to play any games online or off.

I'm confused : it this after you have done a fresh clean install? If so, post a new MGADIAG report - its the only way to diagnose activation issues.

If you gave them the Key ending 3Q6C9, then that key *is* blocked - because it's the OEM_SLP Key - and they should have asked you for the COA Key, and helped you install it.

If you gave them the Product ID, or an installation code created using that 3Q6C9 Key, it will fail for the same reason.

For a clean install, you MUST use the Key from your COA sticker, not one found with a Keyfinder app.

New MGADIAG

The gal at the activation desk never asked for the COA she asked me for the product ID. MGADIAG was from the latest clean install.

I just tried to enter just the COA "X15-53758" into the change product key
and it say the windows 7 product key you typed is invalid.
The 3Q6C9 number is the actual number on the COA sticker and not from
using an app to find it.

Thank you so much for taking another look.

That number is not a valid one when used on a sticker (it only exists in pre-installed Windows from Hewlett Packard machines), and implies that the sticker itself is counterfeit.

From where did you purchase this machine/license??

In that case, there is *no way* that the 3Q6C9 Key is on the COA sticker.

COA Sticker

it is my habit to write down everything about a new pc in my tablet.
I have model pid SysID BiosVer Ser# and the product ID I have written down
is the 3Q6C9 nbr. Flipped the pc over just now and took a pic of the sticker and
put it on my TV and Super Zoomed it and the only actual numbers that are
still legible is the COA "X15-53758" the rest of it has worn out over time
so I am going by what I had written down in my book.

I called Microsoft again and they told me they can only assist Retail buyers
not OEM they sent me back to HP. Hp referred me back to a Microsoft
Anti-Piracy desk at 1-800-785-3448 which says they are closed til Monday.
I am going to re-install once again using my original disks because MS
had me type in a format (msdt.exe) plus a nbr that is supposed to reveal the true nbr
but they came back with an error (didn't write the error down but read it to MS)
anyway now when I try to do it again it just ships off a troubleshooting error to MS.
My though is if I re-install - with original dvd's it might recover that error
and that format might work. My other thought is there has to be a way to reset the error code so it can pick up the tru pid stored I guess in Bios because normally when
you try and activate it automatically picks up that number and you don't have to type anything in. Anyway...have house guests today so cannot attempt til tomorrow.
Have a great weekend - and don't work too hard.

Windows 7 Activation Successful

Noel...
Marking this as solved...found the magic phone activation assistance...800-936-5700

Nicest, most polite, patient fellow helped me out...and gave me new product ID in under 2 minutes! He was the perfect Birthday present.

I am labeling and taping nbr into the battery compartment so this will never happen again.

Still did not solve the remote control issue...not once did anyone bother me yesterday
but today every other keystroke I am having to block the bluetooth access. So after I finish updating my system...I am gonna have to go back and block all remote access in my firewall again.

Big XXXOOO to you -Thank you so much for all your suggestions and mostly for hanging in there.

Hopefully I can get my other pc fixed on my own - Wendy
