Windows not recognizing NVidia GeForce 8400M GT

here is a copy of mine. can i get an inf file made too?? thank u so much if u can!!!!

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&SUBSYS_9018104D&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&SUBSYS_9018104D
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&CC_0300

also fyi i have a vaio desktop and am running windows 7 32 bit. will this work for a desktop also? most posts i see in here are for laptops.

Use this attachment to replace the .inf (after extraction of install .exe to C:\NVIDIA, then close installer) from the latest desktop driver from NVIDIA's site. Version 195.62. Then:

Right click on standard vga in device manager. Click update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick from a list. Have disk. Browse. Find the .inf you just edited and double click on it. Hit ok so it installs.

The desktop uses a different video card. Do you know which it is? If not, copy and paste the hardware ids the same as you did for the laptop.

Enjoy.

Hi torrentg. I believe the inf you posted for daviddoo9988 on page 1 would also work for me (same IDs and same card of course). However, I cannot download it, the forum always takes me to a no permission page. This is weird, as I am able to download all other attachments... just not the one I need and which might solve all the problems I have been having for many hours now.... Would highly appreciate it if you could upload it again or tell me how to be able to download it!

Thank you in advance!

Hi torrentg!
I have nvidia 8400M G on my LG E500 laptop. I read and followed your method but I still couldn't install using the file setup.exe, same message as alot of posts above. However I could intall using "Update driver" in "Device Manager". It was successful and i got window aero but the problem now is that when it said i have nvidia 9600M GT instead of 8400M G (i will also update a picture of when in the set up it say so) and also i don't have the Nvidia control pannel when i right click on the desktop. Is there any way to change this?
Thanks alot

Hi. You followed instructions incorrectly. Start over again from scratch for best results.

You are supposed to use the device manager. That's how the OP says to do.

You can install the control panel by going to C:\NVIDIA and finding the appropriate .exe to install from. It's named very clearly that you can tell which it is.

Hi. You have an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS.

You can follow this to install the latest driver:

http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/36593-nvidia-driver-convert-desktop-mobile-laptop.html

But first, you can try to download the driver from NVIDIA's site for laptops. This will be easier for you and may work. If it doesn't, follow my link.
