Windows Picture Viewer Not printing

Dear All,

We have a small issue in our hands.

Our users are using windows 7 home premium 64bit, when they are trying to print form Windows Picture Viewer it is not printing but when they are opening the same file from paint it is printing.

The printer we are using is HP deskjet 1050J.

When the user is printing from any other application the printer is working seamlessly.

Please help.

Hi and welcome to the Forum
I assume you mean Windows Photo Viewer. With a photo open can you see the "Print" tag like the screenshot here:

What exactly do you see when you click "Print"?
Is the printer a network printer and if so is it connected wirelessly?

When I am printing I can see that print preview and the spooler is spooling the file but nothing is happening in the printer.

The file will just appear in the queue of the printer and it will just vanish.

You are not alone with this problem, here are numerous posts about it on the net. I did ask if the printer is on a network and if it is wirelessly connected? from what you describe it seems as if the file is not getting sent to the printer. What file extension are the files in question?

In your first post you said that Your users were having this problem. How many are there and do they all have the same problem? They can't all be connected to the printer by USB so is there a network? Sorry for all these questions but I am trying to work out whether this problem is User, Jpeg, network, or Program specific. Can you open one of the JPEG's in a photo editor and save it with a different name but in PNG format and see if that prints. What is the average the file size of these photos is MB's?
I have another possible solution but lets see what info I glean from your reply to this post. It might just be a spooling problem!

Sorry for the late reply. The users who are experiencing this issue is not actually in my domain at our head office. They are located in different showrooms. They are in a workgroup and we have allocated all in one printers for them. I did try using different file formats but not printing form picture viewer.

When I open the same in paint its working fine.

What they are trying to print are scanned documents and the size of the document is usually between 600 KB to 1MB.

I got calls from 4 showrooms and they are located in different parts of the country. All of them are facing the same issues. I have configured automatic updates for the machines, an update could be causing this issues?

Please suggest a way around this problem.

I have two possible ideas.
First one to try:
From the desktop, press the start button and in the search box type "cmd" without quotes. At the top of the window that opens right click on cmd.exe and click "Run as Administrator", in the command prompt that opens type "Net Stop Spooler" without quotes and press Enter on your keyboard. At the next command prompt type "Exit" and press Enter on your keyboard. Try to print a photo from Windows Photo Viewer. If that doesn't work, do the same thing again from pressing the Start, then typing cmd right through exactly as before but this time type "Net Start Spooler" press Enter, Then Exit etc.
See if that cures the problem!
If not let's try the update reversal.
Fist off create a System Restore point.
Now do a System Restore to a point behind the last Windows update.

EDIT: Having said all that the easy way to solve this problem is to forget Windows Photo Viewer which I have to say, few of us here on the Forum use and download and install the very good, versatile and free program Irfanview. Download all the add ons that go with it and you will find it difficult to find an image file that Irfanview cannot open.
