Solved Windows reporting as not genuine after hard disk swap

I recently swapped out the hard drive on my laptop, replacing a 500gb with a 750gb (2 partitions, main partition where Windows resides left unchanged in size) and shortly thereafter started getting warning messages that my Windows 7 is not genuine. Not sure if they're related, but the proximity of the two events makes me wonder. I've scanned the steps recommended and can't seem to make any progress. The results of the MGADiag are below. I've also run SFC / scannow and don't see anything in the log, but it is long, and may have missed something. I also tried to run CheckSUR, but get error 0xc8000247 when it tries to install. Any clues what to do? Thanks.

I did the installation. The laptop had come with an older operating system (vista?) and an offer for Windows 7 upgrade when available. It's a legit copy via Sony and I still have the disks right here. Yes, the sfc scan said that "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". I cloned my hard drive when I replaced it and still have the original, so I should have a source for uncorrupted files, but am unable to spot an error in the (lengthy) log file.

I suspect your old drive also has the corrupted files and usually won't be fixed by running it 3 times.

On the activation, have you tried clicking Activate now and choosing Call MS?

I've asked for help, we have people who can help with both issues.

First off, let's see if we can fix the problems in the MGADiag report...

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194

(you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

Assuming it works (it does, about 75% of the time)
Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

Done. I had to reboot 3 times, but whatever. Here's the new MGA report. I had seen mentions of the driver issue in these forums but when I tried to update the drivers I was told I had the most recent version, and other Intel driver software failed to run; I didn't have the link you listed. It looks like all those file mismatch warnings are gone, yes? Was that the error you were referring to?

Thant's cured the not-genuine problems, at least... now back to your SFC problems..

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

(yep - the file mismatches are 75%certain to be related to HD driver problems, and the quickest way to sort it is to (re)install the RIST drivers by force like this)

well, re-ran sfc and got the (happy-to-see) note that there weren't any integrity violations. And I haven't received the message about not having genuine windows, so it looks like the problem(s) have been solved. As I mentioned, I saw previous posts mention the driver issue, just didn't know where to go to get the new, improved drivers. Thanks so much. I'm a little puzzled over how this issue occurs; this is actually the 2nd time I've swapped out my hard drive and the first time there wasn't any issues. Do the old drivers run into problems when the disk gets larger than a certain size?

The drivers appear to be fairly fragile - there have been a lot of similar errors over the past few years.

You may want to run CheckSUR just in case (it'll work now), but I suspect that it will come back with a clean log (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log)

Thanks. Everything has been running smoothly for a couple of days - no non-genuine messages popping up, and some other peculiar behaviors have stopped (I was having trouble with IE downloading files). I'll eventually run the CheckSUR, but things look pretty good. Thanks much.
