Hi

Can anyone suggest how to speed up my windows search results?

When I click on the start button the initial results appear as fast as I can type. But this only applies to Settings and Programs. It is currently taking over 10 seconds for the first file name to appear!

Worse, nothing is cached - so if I want to do another, similar search a few seconds later, it STILL takes 10 seconds before the first filename appears.

Background
- Most of my documents live in a directory in the root directory called "docs" (e.g. 3.5GB)
- I have 98GB of free space on my hard drive (SSD)
- I have c. 11GB of Outlook emails as .PST files (Outlook 2013)
- I have c. 5GB of emails in an .OST file.
- I have some about 5GB of files in DropBox too.

- My system:
Motherboard: Intel DP55WB (MA TX)
Processor: Intel Core I5 750 2.66GHz
RAM: 8GB = (2GB 1066 DDR3 Memory) x4 modules
Hard disk: SSD 300GB, "INTEL SSDSA2CW300G3 ATA Device"
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5770 - S/n: 7 78656 05291 8
Operating system: Windows7 Pro 64Bit

I rebuilt the Window's search index a few weeks ago but it didn't help speed things up.

In desperation I sometimes still use the desktop search called "Everything" (from VoidTools) ("Version 1.3.4.686 (x64)") which is extremely fast and light on resources and only searches file names. However it appears the author has given up developing it at it keeps crashing.

I also use X1 Search (v8.3.2.1) which I like because it is extremely powerful, but it is ugly, clunky and takes a few seconds to open for the first time after each reboot. It's also very light on hotkeys which doesn't help.

So for quick file finds I just want to use the built in Windows search. It's just that it's too damned slow.

Any suggestions?

J

To get clear I have also restricted the search indexing only do contents of data filetypes that I am aware of and properties of applications and images. Nothing else is being indexed.

OK I have tweaked it a little and am rebuilding. Let's see what happens.
