Solved Windows Security popup question.

I peruse this site on a regular basis and have never had a problem, but since the other day when I click on this link on the site An Unnecessary Thing: Racism Is Alive and Vile and Raising Money For Killer Cop Darren Wilson | Common Dreams | Breaking News & Views for the Progressive Community I get this security popup, posted below. All other links on site work well and no popups, only this site and this particular link, am more curious than worried about it Am using ie 11 but it also occurs in firefox. It goes away when I click cancel 3 or 4 times.

Would this just be an ISP thing?

That was my first thought. I have uploaded the URL to many different URL safe check sites and all say is OK. Like I said am more curious than worried as it only happens with this link on this site.

Hi,
Because data like logins are sensitive info and the site does not use proper security it would seem it activates the popup,
Possibly someone will test with Chrome to see if the message is triggered using it ?

I don't believe the article it's self is worth the digital space it takes up on the net,

It's likely an issue in the config for the admin. I have gotten those before, usually go away when the website owner sees it

I don't think it's nefarious, but rather an admin config issue BTW, hit cancel and it goes away. A Guy

Cheers Guy, as I said I wasn't worried,. more curious actually. Have sent website an email informing them but news grows old quick and it probably wont be viewed again anyway.

There are some attacks on webpages that will steal your windows password using this method. It does appear to be a legit windows prompt however. Having said that, I would hit cancel. Anything unexpected should be closed out of.

I try to use CTL+F4 first. I never click anywhere on a pop-up I don't recognize or trust. There are scripts that can run if you click on cancel, X, or anywhere on the image. This is how some malware gets loaded. What may seem to be a button to refuse an offer or to close the pop-up could install software.

Yep, that was my first thought, did cancel and always do close out if anything unexpected comes up. I have to cancel or kill in task manager anyway as I have no windows password, lol.

Very true. Ctrl + f4 does nothing though in my experience...only alt + f4

It closes the tab for me but I use IE. It really doesn't matter. Use what works for you. The important part is to close the modal or window without clicking on it.

I just checked. ALT+F4 for me wants to close everything.

alt +f4 closes programs the same way as the interface does, so It really does not help much imho.
Scripts will still run.

The best way (imo) is task manager and right click go to process and force quit the process.

But I cannot expect an average user to be able to do that, so by that point it's usually too late anyway.
