Windows start up as usual. Please wait is stuck, with a black screen.

I didn't know where exactly this should go, so let me know if there is somewhere else it should be. I was cruisin' through the internet, next thing I know the only page that will load is the new tab page. So, like any hard working male, I restart my computer. Well, when i try to restart it after the windows graphic screen I get the 'Please wait...' and after a few seconds it goes to a black screen. A few more seconds it goes back to the 'Please wait...' screen. If left enough times, it will go back to the windows start up graphic and the process will begin again. I have tried to access the boot menu, but I am unable to because of the use of a USB keyboard. I have the availability of the mouse cursor, and I can use the keyboard in the 'Please wait...' and blank screen, but when it goes back to the start up graphic I am unable to use it. I have tried a few things I could think of. Plugging the USB keyboard into a different USB slot to see if my mother board gave it precedent, multiple restarts, spamming all manner of key combinations, and none of it has worked. Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

You will have to plug the keyboard as PS2. PS2 keyboards are not very expensive and a usb-to-ps2 adapter is about £1. I am afraid that there is no way to get the USB keyboard recognized before the drivers have loaded.

Would it be better to just start in safe mode, or should I just wipe? I think I picked up a virus along the way somewhere, but I don't know from where.

try safe mode first, if that works it might not be a virus, just badly behaved software or a driver.
