Solved Windows Task Manager Loses Shut down Option Why? Bug?

Hello Everyone,

I don't know why this happens, but the Windows Task Manager loses the shut down option. Any reason why? Can it be a bug?

Hello mrje,

If you mean "Shut down" as in shut down the computer, then that option was never available in Windows 7 Task Manager.

Instead, you could click on the Start button and use the power button and/or arrow menu to shut down.

Hi Shawn,

Thank you for your help again.

That is correct. I could of sworn I shutdown or restarted the computer from the task manager before. I probably had a brain fart and forgot .

The reason why I asked the question is because my computer stalled on me, which it rarely does and I opened the task manager to restart the computer and I didn't see the option, which I could sworn I did before.

It was possible on XP, but this function has been removed with Vista and newer OSes.

Thank you for the info. Too bad. Man I keep fighting myself because I could of sworn I did it in Windows 7.

In addition, you could also press CTRL+ALT+DEL and click on the red shut down options box arrow at the bottom right corner for these options.

Update: I guess this is a good amount of time to report. I haven't had the problem since. So I guess I am all good. Thanks everyone for your advice and help.
