Windows Update 800b0100 error

Ok, first post so please be gentle.

None of my updates are installing - getting a 800b0100 error. I've followed all the recommended steps (sfc, FixIt, etc) but no joy - ran SUR and logs are attached.

Anybody able to help me with this?

You have a rather large error-list in the CheckSUR log :(

I don't think it will be too difficult to correct that - but it may not solve all the problems that could be present.

It's only recently started failing so I assumed it must be a single root cause causing everything that came along to fail.

I've uploaded a file - ds4aa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder ds4aa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

I've uploaded a file - ds4ab.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder ds4ab in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

I wasn't sure if I was meant to clear the existing packages and manifest so I didn't - I simply added in the new ones.

Good - all fixed now :)

Windows will do its own cleanup after a while - if not simply delete the entire C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur folder
You can also delete the downloaded files and the extracted folders.

If we're lucky, Windows Updates should work properly now - if not, what exact error message do you get?

Good news and bad news.

Good news - all system updates now go through

Bad news - one is now causing my PC to not boot.

After installation, I rebooted but it blue screened and dropped into System Repair. A system restore got me back and, through trial and error (and a lot of reboots and some further system restores) I've found the issue to be the Microsoft Security Update KB2930275. If I install that bad boy my system will no longer boot.

Is there any chance the work you've done has caused this or is it coincidence? Any idea where I go now to get this one fixed?

Sadly not, don't use Norton, or indeed any other anti-virus so it's not that.

I knew I'd get asked :o It's only used by me and I've *very* careful about security. I run ad-hoc scans just to make 100% sure but they're always clean - however, I'll do one tonight to make sure.

Sorry for the delay in responding. You see, I was wrong. Had a malware infection. All cleaned up and I've learnt my lesson - anti-virus remains installed from now on.

However, that KB installation is STILL causing the same problem. Any one have any further ideas on what it could be?

Run another SFC and CheckSUR, then post the logs, together with the windowsupdate.log and we'll have another look.
