Hello,

I just installed Win7 on my Asus K95VJ laptop and Windows Update is not working. I tried the troubleshooting from Microsoft "Windows Update Cannot Check For Updates" error message when you try to install updates but without any luck.
If I select from that webpage to automatically fix my problem, I get the results from my Untitled2.jpg printscreen.
When I go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, the 3 services that are required for Windows Update to work appear with status Started, but not Running. See my Untitled.jpg printscreen. I tried restarting them without any luck.
I don't know what to do anymore and I don't understand why it's not working... please help me out.

Well, this is awkward, but I fixed it :) I found the solution somewhere else. I had to go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs and delete edb.log (it's a .txt file), then restart the computer. For I don't know what stupid reason, that edb file was corrupt and prevent Windows Update from running. Deleting it made Windows replace it with a brand new one and fixed my problem.

Yep, that will work. An alternative is to rename \SoftwareDistribution to something else, then restart the Update Service which will create a new \SoftwareDistribution folder.

Updates should then work perfectly.
