Solved Windows Update error 80070005/80080005/never stops scan

First, let me start by saying I had another error before (80080005), but then I followed various guides from Google (maybe not the wisest place to look, I admit), but it did lead me to this topic, which is how I found this forum.

Current steps I've taken:
- Stopping Windows Update service, renaming the SoftwareDistribution in C:\Windows, starting Windows Update service again. I believe stopped the 80080005 error from popping but now Windows Update just sits there... and Checks for Updates forever.
- So I've run the WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab, which is where I got the error 80070005.
- After many unsuccessful attempts to remove the error using two different methods, there came this page, which I've used before and may have caused some further breakage. I went down the list UNTIL I reached the reset winsocks thing which caused me to restart and such.

• Several dll's either failed to load or had an error similar to "mshtml.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found" My list looked somewhat similar to the link's.

This is where you lot come in. I came here, ran System Update Readiness Tool (completed rather swiftly... five minutes-ish?)... then WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab again and I THINK it resolved a lot of those DLLs since it came up with more errors? But I can't be sure.

But... I apologize for the messy formatting here. I've been trying to put everything I can here for you guys, but it may just have ended up as word vomit.

I just want to be able to use Windows Update and install .NET 4, which seems to have a similar issue of just... hanging.

And suddenly I'm seeing a notification about installation of updates now?! Here's hoping this sticks! I may not have needed you guys, but I'll stick around just in case you guys think I need to clean some stuff up. Wish me luck. Restarting now.

Hi,
Not sure why you would install that old of a update client ?
Just make sure these two updates are installed
Windows Update will not update and I've tried multiple fixes
