Suddenly today (7/9/14) Windows 7 has decided it won't update and gives the 80070308 error. I have tried Googling for a solution but can't seem to find much other than the RegistryReviver program pop up on all the threads. I use the free version of CCleaner to periodically clean up the Registry. The 80070308 error seems to be a common problem and has been around for a long time based on the items Googled. Before I restore the system from a backup from a month ago is there a better solution to this problem. I have attached a screenshot of the Windows Update Log. It would appear that one of the updates on 7/9 caused the problem? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I downloaded SURF and ran it and it applied the Hotfix. I then tried to have Windows update do it's thing and it failed as it had done many times today! I have included the Screen dump of the Windows Update Error screen and the CBS.zip file. Hopefully, this will help someone who know a lot more than me get to the bottom of my problem.

I tried to Upload the CBS.zip file but it was too big and the upload failed! I am going to delete the .log file and run Windows Update again. If that is not what is needed I have saved the original CBS.zip file (27,616KB).

So much for that idea, the new log file is almost the same size! I need some further instructions on how to upload the CBS.zip file.

Deleted the CBS.log and re-ran Windows Update and of course it failed. This time I made a zip of just the log file instead of the whole CBS folder. Hope this helps.

The problem is that by deleting the CBS.log file, you also deleted the results of the SFC scan.

Having said that, it looks as if the scan would have failed anyhow...

...and I responded there - the chances are that your problem is NOT the same (this is a very rare one)

Which issue is rare

The issue in this topic or mine? Also I'm doing a scan now through CMD. Will let you know my findings in the other topic.

The issue in this thread is very rare - I've seen similar on only 3/4 occasions in the past couple of years. Yours is fairly common in comparison. and we should get at least one of the issues sorted quickly.

I'm back. I tried using an old system restore point hoping that might fix the problem but it didn't. So...I re-ran SURF and installed the Hotfix and I reran sfc/ scannow. Then I tried running Windows Update and it still failed. Attached are the files as of the current status. I could not find the Windows\winsxs\pending.xlm file. It ain't there!

I tried that approach. I started at the top and then I tried starting at the bottom of the list. Each try failed. Give me a hint on which one of the eight updates I should try first.
